The consequences of accidentally NOT ordering a card, while inconvenient, are slightly less than the consequences of ordering a card unintentionally. That’s especially true in cases where ordering a card automatically shuts down an existing card, like when there is a second person with that card that suddenly can’t use theirs. (Depends on the vendor setup.) There are situations where CUs use the card reorder feature to change PINs only, or update expiration dates, or something else and don’t want to order a card.  It's safer to leave the flag unchecked until a person specifically selects that they want a card to be ordered.

One recommendation is to make use of the daily ATM/Debit/CC Maintenance Sent to the Vendor reports (LXMTPAN1B) that show exactly what card orders and other maintenance has gone out to your vendor each day.

The report shows card adds, as well as maintenance and reorders, and you can tell the # of cards ordered, if any.

Many CUs keep a log of card orders and verify it against this report each day (it’s produced during end-of-day processing each night) and then if they see that a card wasn’t ordered, or something else was done incorrectly, they can correct the situation before too much time passes.
