When entering a phone number I notice that I can create any seq # I want, such as 10 or 100 or whatever. Doesn’t every member have to have a seq #1 for their primary phone number?
Actually, no. Whenever a primary phone number is needed to display on a screen or for other purposes, the system simply finds the number with the lowest seq# for that account. When copying phone numbers back to the old fields in MASTER and MASTRL, the system takes the lowest seq# and puts it into the home phone slot, the second lowest into the cell/other slot, and so forth.

Do you have an explanation for members concerning the APYE calculation on their statement?
Truth-In-Savings requires certain disclosures on periodic statements. One of the disclosures required on dividend-bearing accounts is the “annual percentage yield earned (APYE)”. The APYE is an annualized rate that reflects the relationship between the amount of dividends actually paid to the member’s account during the period and the average daily balance in the account for that period. *Note - this calculation uses the member’s average daily balance for the period, More...

Why does CU*BASE show delinquency in two different ways? In some places it is months/days and others it is actual number of days.
There are two methods used to track delinquent loans for reporting purposes in CU*BASE: Method One (for Collections tracking) We have always tracked delinquency in two separate fields for “Months” and ‘Days” in the member files. When a loan is 30 days delinquent, it shows as “0 Months, 30 Days” delinquent. When a loan is 31 days delinquent, it is “1 Month, 0 Days” delinquent. A month is always considered 30 days regardless of the actual number o More...

We just got a CU*BASE software release and now when I try to run one of my custom Queries I get an error message, "Level for file XXXXX in XXXX does not match query (I C)." What should I do?
This occurs when the release includes changes to the files that your Query uses. For example, if we add a new field to the MASTER file, any Query you have that uses that file will display an error message. Fortunately, it is very easy to refresh your Query so that you can use it again. All you need to do is access the Query and save it. That's all. You don't have to make changes to it, it's just important that you save it so it can refresh itself to match the new file layout. More...

My ATM/DEBIT switch is CO-OP. What does the "MSG TYPE" values mean on my LC01TXN report?
The MSG TYPE values describe types of 'authorizations' and 'transactions' processed through the CO-OP network. Authorizations: (100 110 120 130) For PIN Authorizations there is no hold on the member's funds. However, Signature Authorizations place a hold, CU*BASE shows this as a debit authorization comment in OTB processing. In either case this transaction is not posted to the members account. Is it possible to return a check that will be considered a late return?
The IP Dept. will return any check requested by the CU. However, no IP staff member can guarantee acceptance of a late return by the Depositing Bank. The Depositing Bank is allowed sixty (60) business days, from the charge date of the return, to file a late return claim. When a late claim is filed, the Paying CU will receive a debit, the original check, and all other supporting documentation for the claim. We're finding that emails are bounced back and the system is clearing the member's email address, even though the member has confirmed that it's a valid address. What could be causing this?
Remember that starting in May 2023, bounce-backs due to invalid address are automatically deleted, but we also delete addresses where the mailbox was full or blocked. (We do ignore out of office replies because those aren't considered bounce-backs, just responses to the initial email.) Members sometimes provide an email box that they don't monitor at all. But that is a risk for the entire network, because if we keep sending mail to those mailboxes we are at risk of being blocked by sp More...

On some of my 1098 tax forms, members who just opened a loan this year are seeing an amount under “Box 2. Outstanding Mortgage Principal” that they don’t understand. Where does this figure come from?
The IRS, which makes changes to tax form layouts almost every year, recently added this new informational box to form 1098 to report the balance on a mortgage account as of January 1 of that same tax year. Each year on January 1 we capture the loan balance on all loan accounts in a special file, and then when tax forms are created at the end of the year we can use that figure. Therefore, for loans that were opened in a prior tax year, this balance is usually easy for members to understand. More...

A member did cash transactions in excess of $10,000; however, the CTR form did not pop up in teller processing for the teller to complete the form when the transaction occurred. Why did this not happen? Is it because there were multiple transactions completed at the same time?
The CTR did not populate because the system calculation can combine only those transactions that were posted at the same time. In this particular situation the member had seven deposits within a few minutes of each other where the total amount calculated under his Social Security number exceeded the credit union configured CTR flag amount over $10,000. None of the individual amounts he deposited, however, exceed the $10,000. The total excess of $10,000 calculated placed him on your BSA monitor More...
