For security reasons, I like to lock out members from using online banking until they actually want to use it. But with non-use expiration and automatic deactivation features turned on, how do I run any sort of online banking promotion?
If you: A) automatically deactivate online banking access for all new members, and B) expire online banking passwords due to non-use after 90 days, then how do you run an online banking promotion? After all, sending a marketing piece to members won't do any good if they're disabled or locked out from logging in. Of course you could have them call the credit union to get set up, but here's another idea: Set up a special promotional period! Pick a date to start your campaign. Advert More...

A member did not get either an October or November statement, but his December statement showed a range of 12/1 to 12/31, not 10/1 to 12/31 as I would have expected. Can you explain?
In this particular member's situation there was no activity in either October or November that triggered a statement. The credit union's quarterly (and year-end) statements are configured to produce a statement for every member, regardless of activity level, but monthly statements are more restrictive in an attempt to save postage costs, and not every member gets a statement every month. NOTE: CU*BASE statements have a considerable number of configuration options that allow credit unio More...

If we have configured holds by R&T, if I don't want to place a hold on a particular check can I just leave the R&T number field blank on the Outside Checks screen?
No, the field must be entered if you are calculating holds based on R T number. However, remember that the system will allow you override the number of days to place a hold, and you can even set that to 0 days if you want. (Whenever you enter something manually into the Days field, that always takes precedence over any calculated amount.) So you would enter the R T #, the check amount, 0 days , and the account type (you still need a valid suffix even though the won't really be adding a ho More...

If I have changed my Social Security (SSA) ACH Deposits to use the Automated Funds Transfer solution, should I now consider changing back to ACH deposits?
Prior to the 16.10 release, the SSA began using multiple Company IDs, and it was recommended that credit unions consider using Automated Funds Transfers (AFTs) to handle distributions. Beginning with the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system will be implemented that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” With the chang More...

I have a husband and wife who both receive Social Security payments to the same membership. Now that CU*BASE uses the new way of handling ACH transactions from the SSA, these are causing duplicate distributions to be posted. What should I do if my members still wish for them to be separate transactions?
With the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system was implemented that automatically funnels all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” In cases where the Depositor ID is the same, for example a husband and wife, these ACH transactions will be handled by the same master ACH distribution record under the Depositor ID since duplicate Depositor IDs are no More...

How can I find a record of the Social Security Administration (SSA) Company ID consolidation changes made with the 16.10 release?
With the 16.10 release we have developed a new cross-reference system that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” Refer to the linked to Answer Book items for more information about this feature. At implementation of the release two reports were placed in your credit union’s HOLDxx OUTQ. The first, CNV40003, lists all More...

I see that all ACH Company IDs associated with the Social Security Administration (SSA) are now converted to a “Primary ID.” When did the change happen and where can I find the incoming (original) Company ID I use for returns or NOCs?
The Social Security Administration uses several company IDs for its ACH transactions. Previously two recommendations were made to handle the changing Company IDs, namely to create records for all possible Company IDs with duplicate distribution records or to transfer the distributions with the Automated Funds Transfers (AFT) system. With the 16.10 release a process was implemented that will no longer require either of these complicated solutions. Going forward only one Company ID will need to More...

Starting with the 16.10 release, credit unions can begin allowing AFTs with accounts that are “off the books” including accounts set up with the CU*BASE Account to Account (A2A) and CU*BASE “Off Trial Balance” (OTB) feature. When I print a check, the logo and signature areas are not printing correctly. I am getting garbage characters such as !@#$%&*()abc, etc. Why is this happening and what can I do to correct it?
These symbols print when the printer doesn't know what graphic or font to use for the logo, signature, or MICR line. There are a few possible causes: Is this a new printer? If this is a new printer, the first thing to consider is whether the other printers at the credit union use Check Secure devices. I have a loan that is configured as single payment per period, but it was somehow advanced two payment periods last month. How does this happen?
If the member is delinquent (even by one day), the member is then in the next payment cycle (due date to due date). Therefore, if the member pays the regular payment amount, the loan will advance the date by one period, or by two periods if the amount of the delinquent payment is double the regular payment that is scheduled . For example, John Doe has a Overdraft Protection LOC account that is configured as single payment per period. At the end of September John is due for October 4. John does More...

We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: With the new look for It’s Me 247 being released during 2021, the “See” option shown on here is temporarily unavailable. Members who had See-only access previously configured will no longer have access. Jump, however, is still available. How does billing work for inactivity and/or activity?
We receive a file from Fiserv the beginning of each month for the previous month's activity. The date in the file we receive is the date that the member requested as the payment date. Because of this there will be instances when you can see activity in the member's history for a specific month, but yet they are reported as inactive. Example: The member scheduled a payment for November 1st. Fiserv is going to send it out as a member draft, and therefore they cut the check on October More...

We sometimes have non-member joint owners that join the credit union, or closed memberships that re-join later on. When I create the membership I choose to copy that old data into the new membership so I don’t have to retype everything. What happens with the phone numbers in those cases?
If you are creating a membership by copying over the data from an existing non-member record (like a joint owner or co-borrower is joining the credit union), the system will copy over all phone numbers tied to that non-member record and attach them to the new membership, then delete the old numbers tied to the non-member (since the non-member record itself also gets deleted at that time). This is not the same when copying from another existing membership , or when copying from a closed membershi More...
