This is a tool that engages when you double-click the icon to load CU*BASE.  This launcher gives us control over the startup process to increase efficiency and allow further automation in the future.

Benefits of the launcher (some visible, some not):

  • An informational window will be displayed for a few seconds while the software loads.  In addition to workstation ID and server name, you'll see an indicator that shows whether the connection is encrypted or not.  We will use this space for additional messaging and other details down the road.
  • If your GUAPPLE happens to be offline, your workstations will still be able to launch CU*BASE.  So your teams can keep working without interruption even if you need to move equipment or take care of routine maintenance chores.
  • The launcher has the ability to automatically look for updates to the LegaSuite Client software, not just CU*BASE GOLD itself.  That allows users with admin privileges to more quickly and easily deploy LS Client updates to workstations.  This reduces or eliminates the need for IT managers to write custom scripts to facilitate these kinds of updates.  (NOTE: We are still working on alternate ways to deal with the local administrator privileges requirement, but for now an administrator still needs to be the one logged on to the PC to install the upgrade.  The installer will automatically prompt for credentials if the user doesn't happen to be an administrator.)
  • The launcher includes steps that validate the workstation's configuration at each launch, making sure that only valid workstation IDs are used.  Just another step to avoid potential difficulties for end-users.
  • Modular updates - The launcher gives us even greater control over what is updated on the workstation, and when updates are available, eliminating many of the previous update-related headaches.  Gone are the days of the “Updates are pending, please run jwalkup.bat” errors!  (Remember, this doesn’t guarantee delivery of the updates, but it’s a significant improvement over the older LegaSuite update mechanics.)
  • Self contained updates – The launcher can even update itself, meaning we can continue to innovate and provide new startup features down the road.
