This means that the TCP/IP settings on this workstation match another TCP/IP setting from another computer or printer on the network.  Following is a quick method for checking to see if a TCP/IP address is already in use:


Click on the Start button and choose Run.  Type “command” and click OK.  A DOS prompt will appear.  In the window type in the word ping followed by a space then your IP address, changing the last digit to some other number. 

EXAMPLE: If is your IP address try typing ping then press Enter.  If you receive no ping replies back you should be able to use .52 for your IP address. If you receive a reply, try another number. Repeat until no replies are found.
