Kazaa is one of several popular "P2P" applications available for free download on the Internet. Kazaa is a file sharing program that works by facilitating a connection between two PCs over the Internet. Once the connection is established, any and all files can be exchanged--typically media, such as music and movies or software applications.

 

This software is potentially very dangerous for several reasons. First, users cannot be sure that what they download is actually what the filename suggests.  Also, files often contain viruses or other malware inside them. Further, many of the files exchanged break copyright laws. This has led to some recent, well-publicized prosecutions. If you find Kazaa on a workstation, you should remove it immediately.
