DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.

DHCP is a service that automatically assigns an IP address to a device that is configured for it (workstation, printer, firewall...etc.).  This service is typically set up on a Server, Router, or a Firewall.  A typical DHCPconfiguration would include assigning an IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS.  These configurations would be saved as a "scope."  Any workstation that is set to "Obtain an IP address automatically" is configured to use DHCP.
