For PIN Authorizations there is no hold on the member's funds. However, Signature Authorizations place a hold, CU*BASE shows this as a "debit authorization comment in OTB processing. In either case this transaction is not posted to the members account. This is just a POS (point of sale) authorization for the merchant. It could be either a PIN based or Signature based POS.
The posting transaction for a Signature Authorization will appear and post in a few days with a MSG TYPE = 220. The posting transaction for a PIN Authorization POS transaction will post almost instantly as a MSG TYPE = 200 or 220.
Here are the meanings of the "Authorization' MSG TYPE values:
Financial Transaction Posting (200 210 220 230)
You can tell if the transaction successfully posted or not by looking at the 210 or 230 comment of "POSTED". These two codes are generated by CU*Answers as a response. For example, if a member does an Inquiry at an ATM machine, the MSG TYPE code will be 200 coming in to CU*Answers. The MSG TYPE code of 210 will not say POSTED since their is no transaction. If the member does a transaction and is denied this transaction will not say POSTED. A 230 describes a 'forced-post' situation where the member received the funds or merchandise. It will either say POSTED when it posts against the member account, or SUSPENS when the member account or card is unavailable or invalid.
Financial Transaction MSG TYP meanings:
Reversal and Replacement Transactions: (420 430)
The 420 can be for an Authorization or Financial transaction. Action must be taken by CU*Answers. If this is a 420 for a Signature Authorization then the hold will need to be replaced or reversed. If this 420 is for a Financial Transaction then the posting transaction will needs to be replaced or reversed.
