The PIB Profile online tool does include a mechanism for members to click "forgot my password" and, after answering a series of challenge questions, the system will send a new password to the email address on file at the credit union for that member.
There is also a mechanism in Online Banking where, if your credit union has already set up a profile for the member, or if you require the use of a PIB profile in order to access Online Banking. A member creates a user name and password to access the PIB profile system. This occurs after they are first authenticated to
Online Banking and then answer a series of challenge questions.
We are expanding this PIB capability in several ways, such as allowing the member to define challenge questions and answers memorable to them. In addition, this same functionality is part of the overhaul of the entire home banking site design, It's Me 247.
Online, secure management of usernames and passwords is an emerging area for us and one where we will continue to learn and adapt over time. But remember, no matter how sophisticated our online tools get for managing passwords, be prepared for members to still get confused. They will still forget which username goes with which password, and which username and password goes with which application. In the independent online world where there is no one to call, people might just figure it out. But because it's your credit union pushing this to your members, they will probably still call and ask for your help!
