The CU can check several things when a co-borrower/additional signer reports that they are not seeing the loan they have co-signed appear on their credit report:
  • Check the loan record to make sure there is actually a valid additional signer record attached to it.  (Use Tool #51 "Miscellaneous Loan Maintenance")
  • Verify the ECOA code on the member loan record. This code indicates how loan account information is reported to the Credit Bureau in keeping with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. (Use Tool #20 "Update Account Information")
  • Finally, the CU can use the CU*BASE Report Builder (Tool #100) to query the file CBTTRW01 and view the actual data that was sent in the last tape to the credit bureau. Keep in mind this file only has one field with all the information packed into it - so when querying you will want to use the 'LIKE' comparison and the additional signer's SSN as the criteria. If your query does find a match for that loan and additional signer record, it DID get sent to the credit bureau, but they just have not updated their records for some reason (you will want to contact your local credit bureau representative for more information at this point). If you don't get a match in this file, contact a CU*BASE Client Service Representative for further research.
