For normal releases of changes to the CU*BASE GOLD software itself, no. Updates to the core software screens (called panels) are pushed to your credit union's GUAPPLE(s), then each workstation grabs those updates the next time the software is launched (assuming there are no open sessions already running).
The exception to this is when we need to deploy updates to the LegaSuite client software itself. This is the client software that runs on the workstation to facilitate the use of CU*BASE. Periodically it is necessary to apply new versions released by the LegaSuite software vendor (Rocket Software, previously Seagull), to avoid the risks associated with using out-of-date, non-supported software over time. The use of GUAPPLEs across the network has improved the process exponentially, and our teams are always exploring ways to automate the installation process even further. But at this time, local administrator privileges are required to install these upgrades, due to the way this software is installed on Windows.
In the long term, we hope to set up a system where once each year (such as each spring), we plan to take a hard look at available updates from Rocket, then based on a thorough evaluation and some basic testing procotols, decide whether an update is warranted that year or not. Some years there may be no updates to consider, but in any case we would limit the process to just one Client update a year requiring attention from your IT teams. Technology tools continue to evolve every day, so new methods will likely evolve over time. We do appreciate the work this requires from your teams, but hope you understand that this is a necessary part of maintaining secure and robust tools for all of us.
