Member phone numbers are no longer stored in MASTER or MASTRL as their primary location. Effective with the 18.07 release, this data is now stored in MASTPH.
It is no longer possible for an employee to directly update phone number data in the MASTER or MASTRL file. However, as the related item below explains, there are still hundreds of programs throughout the system that still rely on data in the old locations. While we continue to work through those adjusting those programs, we need to keep the new database and the old fields in sync. So whenever you perform maintenance on an account, the program always looks at data in MASTPH and if the numbers in the old locations don't match that database, the system brings them in sync automatically. Therefore the CUFMAINT file maintenance log may show changes to the phone number fields in MASTRL (or MASTER) even if the employee didn't directly change any phone numbers.
This is most likely to happen after a credit union has just converted to CU*BASE (or after a merger), since the data in these locations might not have been completely synched up to start, but will be brought in sync if needed as maintenance is done.
TIP: If you see a record in your file maintenance log where a phone number in MASTER or MASTRL is changed, look for a corresponding entry for a change to a phone number in MASTPH. If there is none, that’s an indication of this re-syncing and that no phone numbers were actually changed by an employee.
