Older models of laser printers were able to support a non-network connected configuration for the check secure devices.
Drivers were loaded on the workstation as normal, but the printer was configured locally. A parallel cable ran from the PC to the check secure unit's parallel in port. A IEEE 1284 bidirectional printer cable was then run from the check secure unit's printer port to the printer.
These printers are no longer supported although some remain in use in the field.
