Yes, this is normal. The role of the Check Secure unit is to provide a secure means of passing logo and signature information for check printing. The external unit and card allow you load files at the beginning of your day and also allow you to remove the card and place it in a secure location when you are done. When the printer is shut off for the night, the necessary font files drop from the printer's memory and are no longer available.

When you insert the card, it loads data into the memory of the printer. Depending upon the model laser printer you have, you will either 1) receive a report of the font files that are loaded from the default tray of the printer; 2) see the printer blink briefly; 3) see "Processing Job" flash briefly on the printer's display. This indicates that the font files needed for check printing are loaded back into the memory on the printer and you may begin generating negotiable checks.

If you don't want the loading report to print on check stock, slip one sheet of plain white paper in the tray before starting the Check Secure unit.
