Credit unions can elect to block the posting of teller transaction to the negative balance limit by unchecking Posting next to "Teller withdrawals" in their ANR Configuration (Tool #558).  This method is used by credit unions who don’t want to activate the option in Tool #558 for cash withdrawals because it adds the Courtesy Pay limit to the available balance on the Teller screen which they find very confusing.

There are two options a credit union with this configuration can use to allow a member to access their negative balance limit at the teller line:

If a credit union’s policy doesn’t allow a member to just “cash” out Courtesy Pay funds, they can make the member present a negotiable instrument (like a check) to dip into the Courtesy Pay/negative balance limit funds.

If the CU doesn’t require a physical check and does NOT want Courtesy Pay funds accessible in the members’ available balance they can have their tellers enter a “pretend” inhouse check for record keeping.
  • Here they enter 9999 for the check digit.
  • Using an inhouse check will automatically debit the member's ANR / Courtesy Pay fee as well.
This process can be used with both standard teller and Xpress Teller.
