One of my members has received communications directly from "CheckFree" about online bill pay. Why would Fiserv be sending something directly to them?
Remember that Fiservoffers their CheckFree service direct to consumers and via many other financial institutions throughout the country, including banks and other, non-CU*BASE credit unions. The CheckFree Direct product is called mycheckfree and members may sign up for this themselves from many different sources on the Internet. (It's not at all uncommon for people to sign up and never use the service!) Just because the money comes from their credit union accounts doesn't mean they More...

What is the benefit of having members use the login pages rather than logging in directly from my website?
Using a link to the standard login pages provides much more than just the ability to log in: The I forgot my password link that allows them to reset their password online They have to set up the Security Questions anyway; why not give them a place to use them to help themselves if they forget their password? The Apply for Membership link to capture membership applications and work them right from CU*BASE (no rekeying!) Why would you not allow every possible opportunity for someone to say th More...

When looking at the ATM/Debit or Credit Card Activity screen, what does the indicator in the Type and Transaction Description mean?
The fields are related to Process Codes, in that they are derived from the code attached to the message received from the plastics processor (vendor, or switch). The Type you see in the initial Type column of the Activity screen relates directly to the Transaction Description when you view additional transaction details. Transaction types may not apply to all vendors. Examples of these labels are as follows: DEP (Deposit Transactions) ATM/DEP A deposit made at an ATM. ATM/DEP - including a $ More...

My member has an AFT set up with the payment date controls set to “2=Make this payment ONLY if a payment is not made another way” for their membership. This month my member did not have enough money in the From: account when the AFT transfer was processed, but she made a payment afterwards directly to the loan to fulfill rest of the loan payment. Why were the AFT funds not transferred to the loan account?
In this example the AFT was set with a payment date control of “2=Make this payment ONLY if a payment is not made another way for their membership.” On the date of the scheduled AFT, the AFT will look to see if the payment is made on the loan. If the amount in the From: account is does not satisfy the AFT, the amount paid will go in the partial pay field of the AFT . (The loan partial pay field is only evaluated the first time the AFT is processed.) From that point forward, an AFT More...

We are interested in using RDC-IQ and are currently using a vendor other than eDOC Innovations (UrbanFT) for RDC Posting Services (batch posting). Can we move directly to use RDC-IQ with eDOC Innovations as the vendor?
This can be done if you completely close down your program with your existing vendor and do a hard cutover to RDC-IQ. However, depending on the status of your program, you may want to allow your members time to migrate. If you use a vendor other than eDOC Innovations for batch posting (UrbanFT, for example) and want to use RDC-IQ, we recommend that you first migrate to eDOC Innovations and use RDC Posting Services (a batch file process). Once you terminate your program with the former vendor, w More...

How do I control which additional signer on a loan will be reported to the credit bureaus?
On the additional signer record, check the Report to credit bureau flag. This can be done on up to 2 different additional signer records. By default, the person designated as the co-borrower when the original loan application was created will have that flag checked, but you can change the settings using Misc. Loan Maintenance if you wish.

My member gets a Social Security (SSA) deposit via ACH. We use an ACH distribution to pay the member’s loan payment, but the loan payment was not made. Why did this happen and what benefits are there to using an Automated Funds Transfer (AFT) instead?
Prior to the 16.10 release, the SSA began using multiple Company IDs, and it was recommended that credit unions consider using Automated Funds Transfers (AFTs) to handle distributions. Beginning the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system will be implemented that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” With the changes ma More...

I have a husband and wife who both receive Social Security payments to the same membership. Now that CU*BASE uses the new way of handling ACH transactions from the SSA, these are causing duplicate distributions to be posted. What should I do if my members still wish for them to be separate transactions?
With the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system was implemented that automatically funnels all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” In cases where the Depositor ID is the same, for example a husband and wife, these ACH transactions will be handled by the same master ACH distribution record under the Depositor ID since duplicate Depositor IDs are no More...

I am receiving a 'printer timeout error' when trying to print a document to my HP Laserjet 2200. What should I do?
The first thing to do is make sure all the cables are connected securely to the printer and the PC. Be sure to note if one of the cables is a network cable. If all of the cables are securely connected and you still cannot print, restart the PC and the printer. If you receive the same error once the printer and PC are back up, there is likely a hardware issue with the printer. If one of the cables that plugs into the printer is a network cable then the Jet Direct card (a network interface More...

What do the various device and print job statuses on the iSeries mean?
When a device first connects to the iSeries, a virtual device is created - consider it a placeholder for that workstation or printer. Only one device can exist for each ID, which is why only one person can sign into a printer at a time. Throughout the virtual devices lifecycle, there are several different statuses that device can be in. Read below for some details! Workstations VARY ON PENDING - this is the default status of the virtual device. This status means the device is ready and wai More...

We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...

Our credit union has been asked to perform a member account verification (audit). What are the procedures for this process?
At some point during the year your credit union's audit firm may contact your credit union to perform a member account verification. This involves sending statements with a special message and unique return address, so that members respond to the auditing firm rather than the credit union directly. Here are some important tips to ensure your audit is successful: CU*Answers cannot change your credit union's return addresses on statements. CU*Answers uses custom statement envelopes for a More...

A member did not get either an October or November statement, but his December statement showed a range of 12/1 to 12/31, not 10/1 to 12/31 as I would have expected. Can you explain?
In this particular member's situation there was no activity in either October or November that triggered a statement. The credit union's quarterly (and year-end) statements are configured to produce a statement for every member, regardless of activity level, but monthly statements are more restrictive in an attempt to save postage costs, and not every member gets a statement every month. NOTE: CU*BASE statements have a considerable number of configuration options that allow credit unio More...

How do I change a Social Security number that's on a non-member record and put it on a member's account instead?
There are several steps in removing a member's Social Security number: 1) Run a global search to see what types of relationship codes the SSN has with your credit union. 2) The first relationship codes you will want to review are the 'CB' or 'JI' which mean the non-member is a co-borrower and/or joint owner on the account. They need to be removed first. To remove them, launch Tool #3 Open/Maintian Memberships/Accounts, choose Update member information then Joint owners an More...

I see that my member's loan account is in the credit bureau reporting file but it isn't reflected on the individual's credit report. What types of things might prevent a primary borrower or additional signer from being applied by the bureau?
If you or your member notice an account is not being updated (or the additional signer on a loan) you should first try to find out if the loan/additional signer was included in the file sent over to the bureau. You can do this for the most recent reporting cycle by running Tool #658 Print Loan Info Sent to Credit Bureau . If the member loan/additional signer information (defined by METRO 2 as the J1 segment or J2 Segment) is present in that file you need to look further into the following types More...
