Is there a way for my credit union to audit manual fee waivers performed by our staff?
Yes. You can use Tool #371 Fee Waiver Information Report that displays the member account, the employee name, the original fee amount, and the actual fee amount subtotaled by the type of fee. This report can be for only manual waivers or for both manual and automatic system waivers. You can also use Tool #369 Fee Income/Waivers Dashboard and Tool #372 Fee Waivers History by Employee for an on-screen display of this data, complete with selection filters and other tools to help you analyze the More...

I'm trying to use the Open/Closed Memberships dashboard to analyze my entire membership, by entering a date range that goes all the way back to when my CU was chartered. It doesn't appear to show all my members, though.
Dashboard lists like this are limited (by our core IBM platform) to a maximum of 9,999 records. Certain analysis features that count and display summary information are able to deal with much higher quantities of records, of course, but any program that lists records one after the other, the way these dashboards do (it's sometimes referred to as a subfile ), cannot accommodate more than 9,999 individual items in the display. That's one of the reasons we include so many filters so you More...

I'm trying to pull a Query that shows the number of
NSF fees a member has been charged. Is there a field that separates the number of NSFs from the number of Courtesy Pay (ANR) items? I do not want to include ANR.
The NSF Statistics Dashboard (Tool #557) will track this information for you automatically. It is separated into the NSF category and the Courtesy Pay Category. Credit unions are using this dashboard to help predict averages of NSF/Courtesy Pay fee income and also to track how many members may be using the service. You can click on any of the origins (listed in blue text) and you can drill further to members who had more than X transactions in a specific month. There are a lot of graphical oppor More...

When I reverse an NSF fee for a member, does that change the NSF history statistics as well?
No, those statistics are only updated when the original posting program charges a fee to the member. The idea behind this stats file is to record the member was NSF when the item originally came in, regardless of why. There may be several reasons why you reverse the fee, not all of which would mean the history should be changed. (For example, say the item came in NSF but the member had called and said his paycheck was coming tomorrow, so you gave him a break and reversed the fee. In this cas More...

If I activate Statement Style Fees, what happens on a month when a member gets only their credit card statement and not a regular account statement too?
Printed Statement Style fees are triggered only by production of a regular account statement (based on a file called STPRINT01, which is generated only with regular statements, not CC statements) . If a member gets only a credit card statement, they wouldn’t get a fee that particular month. If the next month they get both a credit card statement and a regular statement, then they would get a fee that time. (Note: We do always produce a year-end statement for every member, no matter wha More...

What items comprise the totals displayed and reported as YTD Fees for loan products on statements?
YTD Fees for loans on a statement come from file LNFEES. That file is updated as part of EOD for the sole purpose of printing of YTD and Period Fees totals on statements as per Reg Z. The LNFEES file has a bucket for each month for totaling all fees; it also has a YTD Fees bucket. For credit cards, Reg. Z fees are split out on the statement at the time the statement is created. Fee transactions are identified based on the criteria outlined below, and the YTD Fees and YTD Interest totals are c More...

I marked an account to be excluded from dormancy. Why are dormancy fees still being charged?
This happened because the account was already on the active dormancy list before it was marked to be excluded from dormancy monitoring. Why does CU*Answers charge a monthly fee for running service charge programs we configure ourselves in CU*BASE?
There are two primary reasons we charge this fee: Our belief that we should do our best to keep our fees down when credit unions do not earn. This is why, for example, It's Me 247 mobile web is offered free to our credit unions. It's also behind our constant pressure to reduce fees where CUs have no basis or belief they can charge for a defensive, relationship service. Charging for these services in this manner fund other areas where the direct expenses cannot easily be identified wi More...

How do we turn on a check-cashing fee?
This is done via Tool #188 Cashed Check Fee Configuration. See below for more information on this feature. All check cashing or check negotiation fees (check cashing fees that are charged even if the funds are deposited) are charged on the main Teller Posting screen using the field at the bottom of the screen, which takes away from the cash back amount. The system will evaluate the entire transaction to determine whether the fee should be charged or not, according to your configuration.

When I am reviewing my BIN configuration on CU*BASE, why are there two fields for ISA Fees (Foreign Conversion Fees) at different percentages and what determines which is used for calculation of this fee?
ISA (Foreign Conversion) Fees have two different calculations based on whether the transaction being processed is being done in US funds ('no conv' as displayed on BIN configuration screen) or will require a conversion from the 'foreign' country's currency to US funds (w/conv as displayed on BIN configuration screen) for processing. The way it is determined which fee should be calculated is within the 'transaction' message that your vendor sends to CU*BASE for process More...

Why did a member who has elected to opt out per Reg. E receive a non-return fee on a debit card transaction?
In many cases, the reason an opted-out member receives the non-return fee is because this transaction is a recurring payment. Recurring transactions are not covered by the Reg. E Opt In/Out requirements. You can identify this by the * after the DBT/WDR trans description on the member's transaction history. Recurring transactions are posted and fee'd even if the member is Opted Out.

Why is my member, who qualifies for my Marketing Club, being charged my Service Charge fee instead of the Marketing Club dues? This member is currently a member in the Marketing Club.
This situation could occur if your credit union charges a Service Charge fee to members who do not belong to a particular Marketing Club. If a member does not have funds to cover the Club dues at the time the dues are posted, this member's status in the Club is changed to P for pending. (This can be confirmed on the TCLUBFEE exception report.) When the Service Charge posting program is run, the member is then charged the Service Charge fee (since the member is not currently active More...

If you would like to warn your members who are about to go dormant about dormancy fees that will soon be assessed to their accounts, use the Dormancy Predictor file (DIWARN) in your credit union’s QUERYxx library. This file contains the account base only and is done during EOD on the first of the month (so it’s available to you starting on the 2nd). How do I use CU*BASE tools to keep track of the beneficial owners on my business accounts and other memberships?
Using CU*BASE to Comply with New Rules for Tracking Beneficial Ownership FinCEN has issued new rules under the Bank Secrecy Act that require financial institutions to identify and verify the identity of the beneficial owners of all legal entity members (corporations, etc.). Under the final rule, credit unions are required to have written procedures to identify and verify beneficial owners of legal entity members who open new accounts on or after May 11, 2018. Is my credit union charged a monthly membership fee for members who have written off loans?
No. The monthly billing will show a count of Active Memberships and Written Off Loans . The Written Off Loans count will have a price of zero and is excluded from the Active Membership count. Written Off Loans are defined as loan records with a WRTOFF (write off ) flag equal to 1 . To which account does the "Deposit Item" fee post?
Because Deposit Item Fees do not depend on a transaction, the posting follows the suffix order of the member's lowest checking account suffix. If funds are not available it proceeds to the next highest checking account suffix. If no funds are available in any checking account it will look to the Regular Share suffix of -000. If it doesn't find sufficient funds at that point, the member is listed on an exception report for credit union follow-up.

My member gets a Social Security (SSA) deposit via ACH. We use an ACH distribution to pay the member’s loan payment, but the loan payment was not made. Why did this happen and what benefits are there to using an Automated Funds Transfer (AFT) instead?
Prior to the 16.10 release, the SSA began using multiple Company IDs, and it was recommended that credit unions consider using Automated Funds Transfers (AFTs) to handle distributions. Beginning the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system will be implemented that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” With the changes ma More...
