I have a member receiving an error message when trying to process a payment on their mortgage loan via CU*Talk. Why wouldn't they be able to process this payment?
Because of the complexity of messages that would be needed to handle mortgage payments via a voice response system, payments cannot be applied to 360 loans via CU*Talk audio response. Members will hear the following message if they attempt to transfer money to a 360 mortgage loan in CU*Talk audio response: A payment is not allowed at this time. Please contact the Credit Union for more information .

The FACT Act requires we notify members when a credit score was used to determine eligibility for a mortgage loan. How can I use CU*BASE tools to comply with this requirement?
Option 1: Create a Misc. Member Account Form with the appropriate text, and add a procedure for your loan processors to print this form whenever a loan like this is created. Since the CU*BASE online credit bureau system has no way to know if a credit score is used in the underwriting decision, nor whether the credit report was used for a mortgage or home equity loan, this will be manual process. HINT: This step could be added to the Electronic Checklist feature for your mortgage and home equity More...

I understand CU*Answers is in the process of updating its current SSL certificate to industry standards, and this requires each computer that is being used for CU*BASE printing to be have a file updated. What do I need to do?
These files should automatically be placed into the correct spots to ensure that Iaccess continues to work without any problems. If you want to verify that you have received this file you can follow these few steps: Open My computer Navigate to c:\users\public\documents\ibm\client access\ Verify the current file size of “cwbssldf.kdb” If this file size is 30kb then everything worked correctly and you don’t have to do anything else. My member gets a Social Security (SSA) deposit via ACH. We use an ACH distribution to pay the member’s loan payment, but the loan payment was not made. Why did this happen and what benefits are there to using an Automated Funds Transfer (AFT) instead?
Prior to the 16.10 release, the SSA began using multiple Company IDs, and it was recommended that credit unions consider using Automated Funds Transfers (AFTs) to handle distributions. Beginning the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system will be implemented that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” With the changes ma More...

A large loan payment was made in error so it was reversed using the "95" Account Adjustment code. Why would the Auto Funds Transfer system transfer the exact amount of the reversal in the evening?
The large loan payment was applied as a principal-only payment, which does not move the next payment due date on the loan. When the payment was reversed using the 95 reverse loan payment code, the due date was backed up and made the loan delinquent. That evening, the Auto Funds Transfer system tried to satisfy the delinquency on the loan because the delinquency control flag was turned on in the AFT record. Whenever you reverse a loan payment, make sure to review the loan due date before an More...

Can I have CBX default the applicable delinquent fine code into that field when I am building a new loan request?
Yes. There is an Amortization Default option available in each of your Loan Product Code configurations which allows credit unions to default amortization criteria such as: Delinquency Fine Code, Rate, Payment Frequency, # of Payments etc. The system will then default this value into the applicable fields when creating a new loan request. These defaults are intended to provide consistency for all new loan requests, but can be changed/edited during the loan request process if necessary.

With the CU*BASE budgeting tools, can I project changes to my branches for the coming year, such as if I’m adding a branch or plan to reallocate member branch assignments at some point?
Yes. There is a technique for reviewing and manually adjusting branch allocation calculations for projected asset and liability balances. See the Budgeting with CU*BASE booklet for instructions. NOTE: The classical budgeting tools also contain a “Close a branch” function which zeros out monthly figures from your budget starting with a month you specify. But this does not affect projections for asset and liability balances used in the modeling tools.

Is CU*Talk able to read the really large balances that are now possible in CU*BASE account and transaction files?
No. CU*Talk includes a mechanism to intercept and automatically downsize the balance sizes to the maximum number of digits CU*Talk can handle and reformat the dates from the database before sending it on to CU*Talk to be relayed to the members. Amounts that too large will cause a generic message to be read to the member that the amount is currently not available. Our plan is to address that if and when we start seeing member balances and activity grow to the point that CU*Talk needs to be abl More...

Per Reg CC, check holds are based on business day. Does the CU*BASE check holds feature only count business days in its calculation?
Credit unions have the option to have teller check holds based on business or calendar days. Use Tool #849 Automated Holds Configuration to update how the system calculates holds. If you select to have the system calculate using only business days you must also launch Tool #243 Configure CU Non-Business Days which allows a credit union to indicate what processing days they follow (Sunday through Saturday), to indicate whether the credit union observes all standard Federal holidays, and/or t More...

What is the best way to set up a trust account on CU*BASE?
Trust accounts can be set up as either individual or organizational depending on the legal nature of the trust. Following are recommendations for handling situations when a member wants to set up a membership where the primary member and the first joint owner are, in essence, the same person. This happens most often for trust accounts. Currently in CU*BASE there are two ways to handle trusts: For trusts that use a person’s SSN (where you do not have a separate TIN for the trust), set up th More...

I imported debts from a credit report into a new loan application, and paid off loans show a balance in the Current Balance column in the CU*BASE loan application Debts screen. Why is this the case?
If the credit report states there are no outstanding debts, the household information is not updated. For that reason, the loan application Debts screen, accessed via Tool 2 Work/View Loan Application , will reflect data from the last loan application on file. In these cases, the Current Balance values on the Debts screen in the loan application may include a balance for loans the member has paid off.

I see that my member's loan account is in the credit bureau reporting file but it isn't reflected on the individual's credit report. What types of things might prevent a primary borrower or additional signer from being applied by the bureau?
If you or your member notice an account is not being updated (or the additional signer on a loan) you should first try to find out if the loan/additional signer was included in the file sent over to the bureau. You can do this for the most recent reporting cycle by running Tool #658 Print Loan Info Sent to Credit Bureau . If the member loan/additional signer information (defined by METRO 2 as the J1 segment or J2 Segment) is present in that file you need to look further into the following types More...

If CU*BASE is offline for some reason like system maintenance, and a member uses text banking to request a balance, will they be charged for that text message even though the system couldn't respond?
Since the system will be unable to respond with a balance, it will also be unable to log the text message against the member's account number, which means it cannot be included when fees are tallied. So although the member may still be charged by their mobile phone provider for text messages they send, they will not be charged the usual text message fees by the credit union via CU*BASE (nor with the credit union be charged for that item).

How should I reverse a loan payment or savings deposit that was done to the wrong account?
If the transaction was performed the same day, reverse using Tool #31 Reverse Tran/Adjust Tlr Drawer (Same Day) and then rerun transaction correctly. If the transaction was performed on a previous date, reverse using Tool #354 Effective-Dated Transfers . CU*BASE will automatically adjust the dividend/interest amounts for you. I’m new to CU*BASE. Can I manually enter my G/L history so that I can use the trending tools when working my budget?
Yes, this is possible in most cases, at least for the monthly balances that are used by most budgeting tools and trending dashboards. Since importing detailed history of debits and credits to G/L accounts might not be possible, keep in mind that functionality may still be limited for some tools. Why do my totals on the Loan Delinquency Analysis Report (Tool #461) no longer match the Collection Delinquency Report (Tool #637)?
The two reports are using different criteria to determine loan delinquency: Loan Delinquency Analysis With the 13.0 release in the spring of 2013, the Loan Delinquency Analysis Report (Tool #461) was changed to report loan delinquency in days instead of months per updated NCUA requirements (see below*). How do I set up a loan so that the payment is due on the last day of the month, and automatically changes according to the number of days in each month?
When setting up the loan request, enter a First payment date that is the appropriate month-end date. For example, if creating a loan request on August 25, you would specify that the first payment is due on September 30. Then enter a 31 into the Payment day field. This will trigger the system always to use the last day of any given month going forward (31, or 30, or 28 or 29 for February). To adjust this on new loan requests going forward, set the Day of first payment as 31 using Tool #470 Loa More...
