When a database table (file) is expanded or reformatted as part of a development project, what kinds of adjustments might need to be made on my custom Queries that use that table in the definition?
For things like expanded balance and transaction $ amounts, Query will automatically adapt to larger amounts, and you generally won’t need to do anything. (The only exception is if you send the output to a vendor, they’ll need to be made aware of the larger amounts. Or perhaps if your report is completely full side to side and you need to remove a column in order for everything to still fit across a printed page.) As far as dates, if a date was formerly 3 separate fields for year More...

What is the difference between Annual Percentage Yield (APY) and the Annual Percentage Yield Earned (APYE)?
The APY calculates the annualized rate for a savings product and adjusts for compounding. It assumes a balance of $1,000 for a 12-month term. It also assumes no withdrawals are made during the 12 month term. Truth-In-Savings (TIS) regulations require this disclosure to help people compare savings products, apples to apples, across multiple financial institutions. The APYE calculation is also required by TIS, and can be reported to members via their statement. It is the annualized rate that ta More...

I have a husband and wife who both receive Social Security payments to the same membership. Now that CU*BASE uses the new way of handling ACH transactions from the SSA, these are causing duplicate distributions to be posted. What should I do if my members still wish for them to be separate transactions?
With the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system was implemented that automatically funnels all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” In cases where the Depositor ID is the same, for example a husband and wife, these ACH transactions will be handled by the same master ACH distribution record under the Depositor ID since duplicate Depositor IDs are no More...

Is PIB the same as multi-factor authentication?
No. PIB is a layered security solution , which is one of the three methods recommended by the NCUA to comply with the “Guidance on Authentication in Internet Banking Environment” (letter 05-CU-18). Remember that you only need to select one of the three available methods. (The other two methods are multi-factor authentication, and “other controls,” the NCUA’s way of allowing for technology that doesn’t even exist yet.) Although the term “multi-factor More...

Can online banking download to current versions of Quicken?
Yes! We offer this service so that you can allow members using current versions of Quicken to download data from online banking. ( It's Me 247 will also continue to offer the older QIF file format which works with Quicken versions 99 through 2004.) As explained in the brochure (see the link below), there is a startup and an annual maintenance fee from Qucken to offer this feature to members. I accidentally hit my SHIFT key a bunch of times, and a window popped up on my screen that I clicked OK on, and now my keyboard is acting really funny.
If you press the SHIFT key five times in rapid succession it will ask if you would like to turn on StickyKeys. If you click OK, it will turn on StickyKeys. StickyKeys is an accessibility option in Windows that allows for someone to use the CTRL, ALT or SHIFT keys one key at a time without having to hold the keys down. To turn StickyKeys off: Click on the Start button Click Control Panel If you see “Pick a category” with 10 categories below, click Accessibility Options, and then c More...

Why does CU*Answers charge a monthly fee for running service charge programs we configure ourselves in CU*BASE?
There are two primary reasons we charge this fee: Our belief that we should do our best to keep our fees down when credit unions do not earn. This is why, for example, It's Me 247 mobile web is offered free to our credit unions. It's also behind our constant pressure to reduce fees where CUs have no basis or belief they can charge for a defensive, relationship service. Charging for these services in this manner fund other areas where the direct expenses cannot easily be identified wi More...

Do you have an explanation for members concerning the APYE calculation on their statement?
Truth-In-Savings requires certain disclosures on periodic statements. One of the disclosures required on dividend-bearing accounts is the “annual percentage yield earned (APYE)”. The APYE is an annualized rate that reflects the relationship between the amount of dividends actually paid to the member’s account during the period and the average daily balance in the account for that period. *Note - this calculation uses the member’s average daily balance for the period, More...

How can I find a record of the Social Security Administration (SSA) Company ID consolidation changes made with the 16.10 release?
With the 16.10 release we have developed a new cross-reference system that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” Refer to the linked to Answer Book items for more information about this feature. We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...

What is the process for re-assigning account numbers for the entire membership in the case of a compromised situation?
In a case where the credit union decided that member account numbers had been seriously compromised and wanted to do a conversion of account numbers assigning each member a new account number, CU*Answers would have to bid the process as a custom conversion. There are no current standing processes related to assigning new account numbers to 100% of a credit union's CU*BASE membership. While the conversion of the “go-forward” new member account numbers would be relatively simple, More...

Does the APY Calculator account for a leap year day?
The APY calculator is a generic calculator that does not take specific accounts or specific timeframes into account, and therefore uses a standard 365-day year. If you are comparing this to a real account, and that account’s term happens to fall across a leap year with 366 days, there may be a slight discrepancy in the exact amounts due to that leap day.

What data tables can I search to see information about where and when attempts are made to login to a member's online banking account?
There is a table called MBRAPPSTAT which holds records of various API calls done during the entire member authentication process, even before they have successfully logged in to online banking (even if through the mobile app). That is the first place TO look to see records of what's happening with this member's account as they step through that process. There is one row for each API call, and each API call represents a different phase of the process. For example - Get Username, Get Chall More...

I re-ran a Participation Loan as of a previous month, but there are changes on it compared to when I originally ran it for that month.
Unfortunately not all of the files used for Participation Lending reports are run using month-end E files (the EOM snapshot), but rather pull from current participation lending files. When a loan is deleted from Participation all PLLOAN and PLHIST records are deleted with that – this is why rerunning any reports are changed; there is no history to include in those new reports. We recommend the following: Always make sure you create and ARCHIVE the reports needed when processing end of m More...

We are in the process of creating a procedure in the case of a security breach in which we might need to have all members change their online banking passwords. If we had to force a password change, can the system recognize old passwords and not allow them to be used again?
For a forced password change, the security table can be flooded with a forced password change status and the member would have to change their password the next time they log in. The hold password would remain in the system until the member updates their password. There is not an automated process for this on CU*BASE. A programmer will have to do this manually via a custom programming request. A custom request would need to be submitted and an estimate for leadtime will be provided at that time. More...

In the workflow for opening memberships, is there a way to get to teller posting so I can deposit money (for example, if the new member wants to open a CD right away)?
Workflow Controls do not include an automatic flow to the teller posting system. However, there is an easy way to incorporate this into your procedures. First, set your Workflow Control configuration (Tool #1004 Workflow Controls: Open Mbrships/Accts ) so that the Open sub-accounts feature is turned off . What precautions should I take when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming in from the same institution but for different household members, for example Social Security deposits?
Special care should be taken when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming for the family from the same institution. Take the time to research the member ACH records using the ACH inquiry screen, and if there isn't enough information on this screen, go to CU*SPY and find the PACXTB report to review the ACH detail. For example, the Smith family receives three ACH payments for Social Security benefits: one for the husband, John, one for the wife, Mary, and More...

We have non-members who want to cash checks in our lobby but instead of receiving cash back, they want an official credit union check for a better paper trail. Can this be done using non-member teller processing?
Yes, by making use of both a Misc. Receipts and a Misc. Expense posting code, so that you can put the funds temporarily into a G/L then issue a check from that same G/L. Here are the key steps: First, configure two posting codes, using Tool # 534 Misc. Posting Codes Configuration. For the first one, choose the Receipts type and set up a code that will allow you to place funds into a G/L account. For the second one, choose the Expenses/Advances type and set up a code that will allow you to More...

What are some basic browser troubleshooting steps to take when an issue with a website is encountered?
While it is possible that an issue someone runs into on a website is an issue with the web server or a programming issue with the site, it is very important to rule out any browser or workstation incompatibilities first. If the website is not being opened in a supported browser, for instance, it can cause errors that would otherwise not exist. So what are some standard troubleshooting steps than can be taken? Are you using the latest version of your browser? Just like any other piece of software More...
