When looking at the ATM/Debit or Credit Card Activity screen, what does the indicator in the Type and Transaction Description mean?
The fields are related to Process Codes, in that they are derived from the code attached to the message received from the plastics processor (vendor, or switch). The Type you see in the initial Type column of the Activity screen relates directly to the Transaction Description when you view additional transaction details. Transaction types may not apply to all vendors. Examples of these labels are as follows: DEP (Deposit Transactions) ATM/DEP A deposit made at an ATM. ATM/DEP - including a $ More...

I see that all ACH Company IDs associated with the Social Security Administration (SSA) are now converted to a “Primary ID.” When did the change happen and where can I find the incoming (original) Company ID I use for returns or NOCs?
The Social Security Administration uses several company IDs for its ACH transactions. Previously two recommendations were made to handle the changing Company IDs, namely to create records for all possible Company IDs with duplicate distribution records or to transfer the distributions with the Automated Funds Transfers (AFT) system. With the 16.10 release a process was implemented that will no longer require either of these complicated solutions. Going forward only one Company ID will need to More...

Does the incoming ACH posting file have to have an OFAC scan performed on the originators in order for the credit union to be compliant?
OFAC is defined in the NACHA Operating Rules and Guidelines Chapter 3, Section 1 pages OG15-OG21. There is a difference between OFAC procedures for ACH transactions and the verification of parties with which a financial institution does business. For ACH purposes, only the addenda information on cross border transactions (IATs) require an OFAC scan for both RDFIs (receiving depository financial institutions) and ODFIs (outgoing depository financial institutions). As far as OFAC compliance goes More...

Can an ACH originated by our credit union be returned?

What precautions should I take when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming in from the same institution but for different household members, for example Social Security deposits?
Special care should be taken when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming for the family from the same institution. Take the time to research the member ACH records using the ACH inquiry screen, and if there isn't enough information on this screen, go to CU*SPY and find the PACXTB report to review the ACH detail. For example, the Smith family receives three ACH payments for Social Security benefits: one for the husband, John, one for the wife, Mary, and More...

I'm trying to pull a Query that shows the number of
NSF fees a member has been charged. Is there a field that separates the number of NSFs from the number of Courtesy Pay (ANR) items? I do not want to include ANR.
The NSF Statistics Dashboard (Tool #557) will track this information for you automatically. It is separated into the NSF category and the Courtesy Pay Category. Credit unions are using this dashboard to help predict averages of NSF/Courtesy Pay fee income and also to track how many members may be using the service. You can click on any of the origins (listed in blue text) and you can drill further to members who had more than X transactions in a specific month. There are a lot of graphical oppor More...

These message indicators appear on the CU*BASE loan insurance premium posting report (TCUNAS2 / TCUNAS3) and the Debt Protection Fee posting/exception reports (TCUNAD2 / TCUNAD3). When looking at the ATM/Debit Activity screen, what is the Process Code and how does it affect how member's transaction is being processed on CU*BASE?
The Process Code or PROC CODE on this screen refers to which accounts CU*BASE is going to look at to see if we can authorize the transaction or which account we are going to process against when the vendor is sending a completion. It is a 6 digit field and is broken down into 3 sections to determine how CU*BASE should process the transaction. First is an explanation of how this 6 digit code is broken down and what each segment refers to: OO FF TT in this example the first two digits would More...

On some of my 1098 tax forms, members who just opened a loan this year are seeing an amount under “Box 2. Outstanding Mortgage Principal” that they don’t understand. Where does this figure come from?
The IRS, which makes changes to tax form layouts almost every year, recently added this new informational box to form 1098 to report the balance on a mortgage account as of January 1 of that same tax year. Each year on January 1 we capture the loan balance on all loan accounts in a special file, and then when tax forms are created at the end of the year we can use that figure. Therefore, for loans that were opened in a prior tax year, this balance is usually easy for members to understand. More...

In the program where we update the rates for Audio Banking, what happens if I change a rate to 0.000% or erase an entire line from the configuration?
If the configuration has a rate of 0.000, Audio Banking will not read any message for that rate, even if one was originally recorded. For example, say you have requested a message to be recorded for item #9 on the configuration, but then you forget to go in and actually enter the rate into your configuration, or you accidentally delete the rate later. That recording will never be read to the member. Once you go in and enter a rate in position 9, then message #9 will be read along with that ra More...

Where do the transaction descriptions used for
mortgage payments and escrow transfers come from?
Can the credit union configure what they say?
The transaction description is pulling in from the account suffix description and then uses the origin code and origin type to determine if it was a payment (i.e. ACH or AFT). Those are combined to create the transaction description that appears in the member's history. For example, if your loan product is 360 MORTGAGE and a payment is made, the transaction description might be 360 MORTG PAYMENT. You can use Tool #105 Account Suffix Configuration, choose a suffix and update the trans More...

When I reverse an NSF fee for a member, does that change the NSF history statistics as well?
No, those statistics are only updated when the original posting program charges a fee to the member. The idea behind this stats file is to record the member was NSF when the item originally came in, regardless of why. There may be several reasons why you reverse the fee, not all of which would mean the history should be changed. (For example, say the item came in NSF but the member had called and said his paycheck was coming tomorrow, so you gave him a break and reversed the fee. In this cas More...

What is the difference between Single Premium, Level Rate and Monthly Renewable credit insurance?
All three of these terms describe the manner in which a credit disability premium is calculated for a specific loan. Single Premium - Calculates the premium through a set of rates that correspond to the Original Term of the loan. The premium amount assumes insurance coverage for the full term. This premium is added up front to the loan balance when the loan is created, hence Single Premium . If the loan is paid in full early, the borrower is entitled to a refund for the time between the pay More...

We just had one of our large payroll companies change payroll numbers (ACH company ID, distribution ID). Is there a report I can look at that will tell me what distribution numbers need to be changed and then how do I make the updates?
When it comes to ACH originators who change company IDs, we provide our credit unions with a daily report that highlights any new company IDs that are present. This is the NEW ACH COMPANIES AND INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTS (PACHD3) report. It is available for you to review in CU*Spy each day for any prior day's activity and present within your DAILYxx output queue for you to review for current day activity (each day all reports are generated to the DAILYxx OUTQ and then routed to CU*Spy for archiva More...

We sometimes have non-member joint owners that join the credit union, or closed memberships that re-join later on. When I create the membership I choose to copy that old data into the new membership so I don’t have to retype everything. What happens with the phone numbers in those cases?
If you are creating a membership by copying over the data from an existing non-member record (like a joint owner or co-borrower is joining the credit union), the system will copy over all phone numbers tied to that non-member record and attach them to the new membership, then delete the old numbers tied to the non-member (since the non-member record itself also gets deleted at that time). This is not the same when copying from another existing membership , or when copying from a closed membershi More...

I am receiving a 'printer timeout error' when trying to print a document to my HP Laserjet 2200. What should I do?
The first thing to do is make sure all the cables are connected securely to the printer and the PC. Be sure to note if one of the cables is a network cable. If all of the cables are securely connected and you still cannot print, restart the PC and the printer. If you receive the same error once the printer and PC are back up, there is likely a hardware issue with the printer. If one of the cables that plugs into the printer is a network cable then the Jet Direct card (a network interface More...

In addition, you can also configure codes that explain why a member closes a sub-account, or why they leave the credit union entirely. Throughout the virtual devices lifecycle, there are several different statuses that device can be in. Read below for some details! How do member phone numbers work as they relate to card orders and maintenance?
CU*BASE uses phone numbers that are stored in the MASTPH file when generating card activation information to send to vendors on initial card orders. The numbers in MASTPH are determined by the label/flag applied in Tool #3 Open/Maintain Memberships/Accounts or Tool #15 Update Membership Information as follows: Nighttime # - primary phone number sent to vendor and defaulting into the Card Activation field when ordering a card. Do you have an explanation for members concerning the APYE calculation on their statement?
Truth-In-Savings requires certain disclosures on periodic statements. One of the disclosures required on dividend-bearing accounts is the “annual percentage yield earned (APYE)”.
