I'm putting a hold on a check at the teller line, but what if I want to deposit the check into two different accounts?
The hold days and account type fields are used to give CU*BASE instructions on how to place a hold. All CU*BASE does is create an Uncollected Funds record for that amount, for that # of days, on that particular sub-account . If you deposit the money into multiple accounts, the hold still gets placed on that one account, so just be aware of what that will do to the member's available balance on that account!

How can I redeem a savings bond without cutting a misc. check? Non-members have no account in which to deposit the funds, and my auditor wants me to limit how many employees are able to cut misc. checks.
The best technique, for both members and non-members, is to use the Misc. Advances feature in Tool #1 Teller Line Posting . You'll need to configure a misc. expense/advance posting code ( Tool #534 Misc. Posting Codes Configuration ) for the GL associated with your savings bond redemptions. Then after you've entered the details of the savings bond redemption via the savings bond feature ( Tool #913 Update Savings Bond Information ), a teller would use the Misc. Advance proc code to post More...

Is there a way to put a supervisor override on a member account without actually freezing the account? I have some members on a repayment plan and want the teller to contact a supervisor before serving the member.
The freeze codes themselves are designed when you want to control the member's access to the funds in his or her account. But if you want to control whether an employee can access or post transactions on a particular membership, you should check into Employee Account Security and/or Employee Type Codes . These can stop a member from making a transaction at the teller line until the appropriate employee could give access to the account, but wouldn’t stop the member from using self More...

We have non-members who want to cash checks in our lobby but instead of receiving cash back, they want an official credit union check for a better paper trail. Can this be done using non-member teller processing?
Yes, by making use of both a Misc. Receipts and a Misc. Expense posting code, so that you can put the funds temporarily into a G/L then issue a check from that same G/L. Here are the key steps: First, configure two posting codes, using Tool # 534 Misc. Posting Codes Configuration. For the first one, choose the Receipts type and set up a code that will allow you to place funds into a G/L account. For the second one, choose the Expenses/Advances type and set up a code that will allow you to More...

If we have configured holds by R&T, if I don't want to place a hold on a particular check can I just leave the R&T number field blank on the Outside Checks screen?
No, the field must be entered if you are calculating holds based on R T number. However, remember that the system will allow you override the number of days to place a hold, and you can even set that to 0 days if you want. (Whenever you enter something manually into the Days field, that always takes precedence over any calculated amount.) So you would enter the R T #, the check amount, 0 days , and the account type (you still need a valid suffix even though the won't really be adding a ho More...

Can I use the Debit Card Round Up feature to transfer round-up funds to our credit union's internal membership account, if a member wanted to use round up money for charitable contributions? If so, will the member be able to see our credit union's member account # on their statements and in online banking?
Yes, you can designate your credit union's own savings (or checking) account number to receive round-up funds when setting up a member's round-up transfers, if you wish. 1. Launch Tool #14 Member Personal Banker for a member who wants to participate 2. Select the Debit Card Roundup enrollment button and double click on the member's desired suffix 3. Is it possible to print a check to a vendor without creating an invoice? If so, can that payment be recorded in the vendor’s Accounts Payable history?
You can use the “Print CU Checks” feature to cut a check to any vendor, including vendors that have been configured in your CU*BASE Vendor database, without creating an invoice record, if you wish. If you want that item to show up in the vendor's history (and update their YTD amount paid for the current year only ), you will need to perform a separate step to add the record manually. How do I process a corporate check or money order that is appearing with my daily member share draft exceptions?
Infrequently, a CU may find a corporate check or money order appearing as an INVALID ACCOUNT on their daily member share exceptions. The following steps should be taken to process these items correctly: The CU will want to obtain a copy of item to confirm that it is actually a corporate check or money order. Then, they will want to delete the item from their exception list/file by changing the status of the item from an 'A' (Active) to a 'D' (Delete) - the item will rem More...

Can the CU*BASE dormancy/escheat system automatically take care of pulling funds out of accounts eligible for escheating?
The dormancy tool does not do this, although it is possible to create automated transfer (AFT) records to move funds from member accounts according to whatever policies and procedures your credit union wants to use. Keep in mind that our dormany and escheat monitoring system works at the entire membership level, not individual accounts (in other words, it's about membership dormancy, not account inactivity). Likewise, when the system uses your escheat settings to flag an account as escheat More...

My member gets a Social Security (SSA) deposit via ACH. We use an ACH distribution to pay the member’s loan payment, but the loan payment was not made. Why did this happen and what benefits are there to using an Automated Funds Transfer (AFT) instead?
Prior to the 16.10 release, the SSA began using multiple Company IDs, and it was recommended that credit unions consider using Automated Funds Transfers (AFTs) to handle distributions. Beginning the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system will be implemented that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” With the changes ma More...

What precautions should I take when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming in from the same institution but for different household members, for example Social Security deposits?
Special care should be taken when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming for the family from the same institution. Take the time to research the member ACH records using the ACH inquiry screen, and if there isn't enough information on this screen, go to CU*SPY and find the PACXTB report to review the ACH detail. For example, the Smith family receives three ACH payments for Social Security benefits: one for the husband, John, one for the wife, Mary, and More...

If a member Opts Out under the Reg. E rules, and they currently have a negative balance limit under my ANR program, will transactions still post to a negative balance without charging a fee? If so, do we need to go in and manually remove the negative balance limit for members until they Opt In?
Think of it this way: the member might have a negative balance limit, but Reg. E says you aren’t allowed to charge them a fee for dipping into it unless they specifically opt in for that level of service. But this rule of thumb ONLY applies to ATM and everyday debit card transactions, NOT to checks and ACH items, nor to recurring debit transactions. Since debit card transactions that have been authorized and come through to CU*BASE for posting cannot be returned like a check or ACH item, More...

If I click on the "Skip a Payment" feature from the main list of favorite accounts, why do I go to a list of loans and have to click that same loan account again?
This is one of the trade-offs of our underlying module architecture. Modules let us create completely self-contained features -- skip-a-pay is just one example -- that can then be linked to from anywhere else in the application. You might want to promote something via a banner add, or put it on your feature of the week menu, or even add a link from the master menu. But in order for that to work, the module must be able to function even if it's not coming from a list of loan accounts. We ca More...

On some of my 1098 tax forms, members who just opened a loan this year are seeing an amount under “Box 2. Outstanding Mortgage Principal” that they don’t understand. Where does this figure come from?
The IRS, which makes changes to tax form layouts almost every year, recently added this new informational box to form 1098 to report the balance on a mortgage account as of January 1 of that same tax year. Each year on January 1 we capture the loan balance on all loan accounts in a special file, and then when tax forms are created at the end of the year we can use that figure. Therefore, for loans that were opened in a prior tax year, this balance is usually easy for members to understand. More...

When I reverse an NSF fee for a member, does that change the NSF history statistics as well?
No, those statistics are only updated when the original posting program charges a fee to the member. The idea behind this stats file is to record the member was NSF when the item originally came in, regardless of why. There may be several reasons why you reverse the fee, not all of which would mean the history should be changed. (For example, say the item came in NSF but the member had called and said his paycheck was coming tomorrow, so you gave him a break and reversed the fee. In this cas More...
