If I switch to the Vertical receipt format, can I switch back to the old format if I want?
Technically, yes, but you will need to go through a similar process as you went through to move to vertical receipts in the first place, including scheduling an after-hours conversion with someone available at every branch to perform testing. Remember that all of your printers must use the same receipt format, so if you decide to switch back, ALL of your receipts at every branch will go back to the old format. NOTE: A date has not yet been determined, but it is likely that at some point down th More...

My ATM/DEBIT switch is CO-OP. What does the "MSG TYPE" values mean on my LC01TXN report?
The MSG TYPE values describe types of 'authorizations' and 'transactions' processed through the CO-OP network. Authorizations: (100 110 120 130) For PIN Authorizations there is no hold on the member's funds. However, Signature Authorizations place a hold, CU*BASE shows this as a debit authorization comment in OTB processing. In either case this transaction is not posted to the members account. This is just a POS (point of sale) authorization for the merchant. It could be e More...

If I don't want my staff to use Auto-security, how do I control that?
There is a credit union-level on/off flag where you can disable auto-security as an option for ALL of your employees. To access this, launch Tool #327 Employee Security and use the CU Options button. If auto-security is enabled, anyone can choose to activate it if they wish, either manually by clicking the button at the bottom of the home page, or via their Preferences. As a compromise, if you have some employees who share workstations and therefore need to be able to enter an ID as they acc More...

Can I adjust the amount recorded as the previous-year total paid to an Accounts Payable vendor? Is there a deadline if I want this change to appear on 1099-MISC tax forms?
If you need to adjust the previous year total paid that will appear on a 1099-MISC form, launch tool # 990 Work with AP Vendors , select the vendor, then click the Update 1099 Misc for Prev Year button and update the amount that should be reported on form 1099-MISC. I tried to print a Query definition and it doesn't go to my default printer like I want. Can I change that?
No. The way that normal CU*BASE features work is to use the CU*BASE Workstation Configuration settings to determine a default printer for certain functions, or you can choose a printer directly when printing most CU*BASE reports. But since IBM Query is not a CU*BASE program but rather a generic program offered by IBM, it does not have any way of looking at CU*BASE configs for the info it would need to direct the print job. Therefore a Query definition will go to your list of spooled files and More...

Is there a way to put a supervisor override on a member account without actually freezing the account? I have some members on a repayment plan and want the teller to contact a supervisor before serving the member.
The freeze codes themselves are designed when you want to control the member's access to the funds in his or her account. But if you want to control whether an employee can access or post transactions on a particular membership, you should check into Employee Account Security and/or Employee Type Codes . These can stop a member from making a transaction at the teller line until the appropriate employee could give access to the account, but wouldn’t stop the member from using self More...

I'm trying to pull a Query that shows the number of
NSF fees a member has been charged. Is there a field that separates the number of NSFs from the number of Courtesy Pay (ANR) items? I do not want to include ANR.
The NSF Statistics Dashboard (Tool #557) will track this information for you automatically. It is separated into the NSF category and the Courtesy Pay Category. Credit unions are using this dashboard to help predict averages of NSF/Courtesy Pay fee income and also to track how many members may be using the service. You can click on any of the origins (listed in blue text) and you can drill further to members who had more than X transactions in a specific month. There are a lot of graphical oppor More...

What if I want to add a new primary (sequence 1) phone # for a member while still keeping the existing numbers? I’m getting an error that I cannot use an existing sequence number.
That’s true when adding a brand-new record, but it is possible to re-sequence numbers later once the records already exist, so try this: Use Add and add the new contact number, leaving the sequence # as is After saving, select the new number in the list and use Edit Change the sequence # to 1 and press Enter A warning message will appear; use Add/Update to confirm All remaining phone numbers will be re-sequenced to fit the new one in. In the workflow for opening memberships, is there a way to get to teller posting so I can deposit money (for example, if the new member wants to open a CD right away)?
Workflow Controls do not include an automatic flow to the teller posting system. However, there is an easy way to incorporate this into your procedures. First, set your Workflow Control configuration (Tool #1004 Workflow Controls: Open Mbrships/Accts ) so that the Open sub-accounts feature is turned off . When opening a new member, start from the first Teller Posting screen, using F21-Open from the first teller screen and processing the new membership until done. Using Cancel (F7) at that More...

I'm putting a hold on a check at the teller line, but what if I want to deposit the check into two different accounts?
The hold days and account type fields are used to give CU*BASE instructions on how to place a hold. All CU*BASE does is create an Uncollected Funds record for that amount, for that # of days, on that particular sub-account . If you deposit the money into multiple accounts, the hold still gets placed on that one account, so just be aware of what that will do to the member's available balance on that account!

We have non-members who want to cash checks in our lobby but instead of receiving cash back, they want an official credit union check for a better paper trail. Can this be done using non-member teller processing?
Yes, by making use of both a Misc. Receipts and a Misc. Expense posting code, so that you can put the funds temporarily into a G/L then issue a check from that same G/L. Here are the key steps: First, configure two posting codes, using Tool # 534 Misc. Posting Codes Configuration. For the first one, choose the Receipts type and set up a code that will allow you to place funds into a G/L account. For the second one, choose the Expenses/Advances type and set up a code that will allow you to More...

If I want to give someone else access to my PC so they can take over my teller workstation for the rest of the day, can I just turn off auto-security and have them reactivate it themselves, or do I have to log off?
Deactivating auto-security then reactivating it does require you to enter a different employee ID. After a password is entered to reactivate auto-security under that ID, the screen will refresh the tools display to show which ones can be accessed and which cannot. However, it doesn't necessarily refresh all of that employee's other preferences such as color theme or tool set (Favorites vs. All My Tools). Therefore it's best to just log off and have the next user log in to complete More...

If a member brings me a check and wants to use some or all of that money to buy tickets, can I do that?
Yes. The procedure depends on whether they are using all or part of the money from the check: If just using part of the funds, after entering the outside check amount, you would enter a deposit amount for everything except the amount of the tickets, then enter Proc code R, then use F5-Post . The Miscellaneous Receipts screen will appear. (As an alternative, instead of using Proc Code R and F5, simply use F8-M/R to post and proceed to the Misc. Receipts screen.) If we have configured holds by R&T, if I don't want to place a hold on a particular check can I just leave the R&T number field blank on the Outside Checks screen?
No, the field must be entered if you are calculating holds based on R T number. However, remember that the system will allow you override the number of days to place a hold, and you can even set that to 0 days if you want. (Whenever you enter something manually into the Days field, that always takes precedence over any calculated amount.) For security reasons, I like to lock out members from using online banking until they actually want to use it. But with non-use expiration and automatic deactivation features turned on, how do I run any sort of online banking promotion?
If you: A) automatically deactivate online banking access for all new members, and B) expire online banking passwords due to non-use after 90 days, then how do you run an online banking promotion? After all, sending a marketing piece to members won't do any good if they're disabled or locked out from logging in. Of course you could have them call the credit union to get set up, but here's another idea: Set up a special promotional period! Pick a date to start your campaign. Advert More...

What causes a member check to be returned as 'Refer to Maker'?
Previously, credit unions used Code 38 for “Return to Maker”, but this code is no longer available in the system. This change was initiated by a Reg CC change in 2018. Now, if you are presented with a situation where you need to return a check to another institution, it is recommended that you use one of these codes to clarify the reason for the check return. Some codes allow you to make the change in CU*BASE. Others require that you contact your Check Item Processor. Read below for More...
