A large loan payment was made in error so it was reversed using the "95" Account Adjustment code. Why would the Auto Funds Transfer system transfer the exact amount of the reversal in the evening?
The large loan payment was applied as a principal-only payment, which does not move the next payment due date on the loan. When the payment was reversed using the 95 reverse loan payment code, the due date was backed up and made the loan delinquent. That evening, the Auto Funds Transfer system tried to satisfy the delinquency on the loan because the delinquency control flag was turned on in the AFT record. Whenever you reverse a loan payment, make sure to review the loan due date before an More...

If an IRA certificate is set up to automatically renew (Auto Renewal ID = 2) into an IRA share, what IRA withdrawal & deposit codes does CU*BASE use?
In this specific situation CU*BASE automatically uses an IRA withdrawal and deposit code of I for both sides of the transfer. We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...

My 870.07 Journal Transfer Suspense G/L is off - what should I look for?
As the name of this G/L suggests, this suspense G/L is a wash-through account for automatic system transfer processes such as member journal account transfers, auto check transfers etc. Therefore this G/L should be zeroed out each day as both sides of the transfers offset each other and wash through this G/L. However there are certain things that can occur (either automatically or manually) that may cause a balance to remain in this G/L and require manual intervention to clear it out. The m More...

How do member phone numbers work as they relate to card orders and maintenance?
CU*BASE uses phone numbers that are stored in the MASTPH file when generating card activation information to send to vendors on initial card orders. Can I monitor which specific accounts my employees are accessing via Inquiry and Phone Operator? Can I see what menu options they are trying to access?
Yes, CU*BASE has Employee Security features that let you monitor access to CU*BASE programs by any employee ID, whether CU*Answers or credit union employee. Every time a CU*BASE program is accessed, the system records who accessed the command and when. For CU*Answers employees, the file records the individual ID for the staff member (not the alias) so you will be able to tell who from CU*Answers was doing the work. Do you have an explanation for members concerning the APYE calculation on their statement?
Truth-In-Savings requires certain disclosures on periodic statements. One of the disclosures required on dividend-bearing accounts is the “annual percentage yield earned (APYE)”. The APYE is an annualized rate that reflects the relationship between the amount of dividends actually paid to the member’s account during the period and the average daily balance in the account for that period. *Note - this calculation uses the member’s average daily balance for the period, More...

On some of my 1098 tax forms, members who just opened a loan this year are seeing an amount under “Box 2. Outstanding Mortgage Principal” that they don’t understand. Where does this figure come from?
The IRS, which makes changes to tax form layouts almost every year, recently added this new informational box to form 1098 to report the balance on a mortgage account as of January 1 of that same tax year. Each year on January 1 we capture the loan balance on all loan accounts in a special file, and then when tax forms are created at the end of the year we can use that figure. Therefore, for loans that were opened in a prior tax year, this balance is usually easy for members to understand. More...

Can I have CU*BASE default the applicable delinquent fine code into that field when I am building a new loan request?
Yes. There is an Amortization Default option available in each of your Loan Product Code configurations which allows credit unions to default amortization criteria such as: Delinquency Fine Code, Rate, Payment Frequency, # of Payments etc. The system will then default this value into the applicable fields when creating a new loan request. These defaults are intended to provide consistency for all new loan requests, but can be changed/edited during the loan request process if necessary.

What is the difference between Annual Percentage Yield (APY) and the Annual Percentage Yield Earned (APYE)?
The APY calculates the annualized rate for a savings product and adjusts for compounding. It assumes a balance of $1,000 for a 12-month term. It also assumes no withdrawals are made during the 12 month term. Truth-In-Savings (TIS) regulations require this disclosure to help people compare savings products, apples to apples, across multiple financial institutions. The APYE calculation is also required by TIS, and can be reported to members via their statement. It is the annualized rate that ta More...
