If I have changed my Social Security (SSA) ACH Deposits to use the Automated Funds Transfer solution, should I now consider changing back to ACH deposits?
Prior to the 16.10 release, the SSA began using multiple Company IDs, and it was recommended that credit unions consider using Automated Funds Transfers (AFTs) to handle distributions. Beginning with the 16.10 release a new cross-reference system will be implemented that will automatically funnel all incoming company IDs from the Social Security Administration and treat them as if they came from one, consistent company ID we’re referring to as the “Primary ID.” With the chang More...

How do I change a Social Security number that's on a non-member record and put it on a member's account instead?
There are several steps in removing a member's Social Security number: 1) Run a global search to see what types of relationship codes the SSN has with your credit union. 2) The first relationship codes you will want to review are the 'CB' or 'JI' which mean the non-member is a co-borrower and/or joint owner on the account. They need to be removed first. To remove them, launch Tool #3 Open/Maintian Memberships/Accounts, choose Update member information then Joint owners an More...

How do member phone numbers work as they relate to card orders and maintenance?
CU*BASE uses phone numbers that are stored in the MASTPH file when generating card activation information to send to vendors on initial card orders. The numbers in MASTPH are determined by the label/flag applied in Tool #3 Open/Maintain Memberships/Accounts or Tool #15 Update Membership Information as follows: Nighttime # - primary phone number sent to vendor and defaulting into the Card Activation field when ordering a card. Daytime # - secondary phone number sent to the vendor. Mobile – More...

Can I flag a member account so their statement is never mailed?
Yes, the Statement Mail Groups feature lets you configure up to 9 codes that can be attached to a member's account. The codes specify whether statements should be printed and archived (the standard method) or just archived only. This is used in situations such as for members with written-off loans or bankruptcy situations where the member shouldn't receive a statement, or even if you want to avoid printing statements for your own staff. Archived statements are available through CU*SPY More...

Is there a way to code a member's account in CU*BASE so that it is excluded from membership tapes/files that are sent third parties like Liberty Mutual or CUNA?
There are two ways to accomplish this: The first way is to use the Marketing Opt-Out flags on the member's MASTER record. Introduced in the CU*BASE 9.2 release (August 2009), these are two flags that can be checked to exclude the member from third-party marketing communications and/or CU-related marketing commnunications. Why does it matter if I enter an invalid email address? Doesn't the email just get returned?
Actually, because CU*Answers sends email on behalf of all of its clients, bad email addresses hurt all of us! Every month CU*Answers sends nearly 100,000 e-statement notifications. We send a couple hundred thousand It's Me 247 online banking notices. We send Member Reach newsletters on behalf of 80 credit unions. We send a lot of email. (And it’s email that your members want to receive!) Unfortunately, if enough emails are returned as invalid addresses, large Internet Service Provider More...

We have a member that changed her last name quite a while back. She just received her reissued debit card, and it was issued with her former last name. Why wasn't this information sent to our debit card vendor in the daily maintenance file?
Changing the member's name via Tool #15 Update Membership Information does not automatically change the member's name in the PLASTICS file. You would need to access Tool #11 ATM Debit Card Maintenance , highlight the member's card, and select Reorder Card/PIN. You will then be able to change the member's name and order them a debit card with the correct name information. Before selecting Add/Update, make sure you only select Order Card, and deselect the Order PIN and More...

What should I do if an email comes back as undeliverable? Is there a way to flag the address as incorrect, like you can with a member's home address?
The one thing you do NOT want to do when you get a returned email is to change the email address to a fake one like bademail@xxx.com. Instead, check the Wrong email address flag on the member's account. You can access this flag anywhere an email address can be entered, such as through the Name/Address button (F14) in Inquiry and Phone Operator, or via Tool #14 Member Personal Banker (shortcut: pb), or via Tool #15 Update Membership Information (shortcut: umbr). Can I prevent a member who is not a U.S. Citizen from being included in tax forms and reporting to the IRS?

I reinstated a member in the Work with Dormancy tool, adjusting the last tran date on the member's account at the same time. I thought that the next day the member would show as dormant again. But it's still showing suspended. What should I check?
Dormancy on a membership considers the entire membership, so any activity on any of the sub-accounts will suspend it from dormancy. If there is more than one account with recent activity, all accounts would need to be adjusted to remain in dormancy. Make sure the Last contacted date hasn't been changed on the member's account. This is used to record when a member contacts the CU about keeping their account active, without performing an actual transaction. (Use Tool #15 Update Members More...
