How do you configure a Topaz Signature Pad with a magnetic stripe reader and a serial connection?
1. Make sure the pad is connected to a known working PC, not a laptop. 2. Connect the pad using a Y adaptor. This Y adaptor should have a serial connection on one end and both a serial and PS/2 connection on the other. Connect the single Serial end to the Pad and the other serial connection to the computer. Next connect the PS/2 connection to a free PS/2 port on the computer. This is required to supply the pad with the necessary power. If there is a conflict with port availability adapters are a More...

An employee was serving a non-member via the Teller Non-Member Services feature and accidentally posted an in-house check as an outside check instead. How would we correct this so the check can be properly posted as an on-us check?
Normally when serving a member, you would use Tool #31 Reverse Tran/Adjust Drawer (Same Day) to reverse the transaction and correct the drawer, then run the check through properly via in-house checks. But when serving non-members, this tool doesn't work as there isn't a member transaction to reverse. But you do need to correct the teller drawer to remove that item so it can be run through again properly without causing an out-of-balance condition in the drawer. Therefore, you will need More...

Can I change the SSN/TIN on an existing non-member record?
Unfortunately, no. This is incompatible with the way the underlying non-member database architecture works. In a nutshell, the non-member data table (MSNONMBR) is set up so that the SSN/TIN is the key piece of identifying data that separates one non-member record from another (it’s actually often referred to as “the key to the file”). The SSN/TIN is also what links a non-member to other memberships, via things such as secondary names (for joint owner and beneficiary relation More...

We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...

I see that my member's loan account is in the credit bureau reporting file but it isn't reflected on the individual's credit report. What types of things might prevent a primary borrower or additional signer from being applied by the bureau?
If you or your member notice an account is not being updated (or the additional signer on a loan) you should first try to find out if the loan/additional signer was included in the file sent over to the bureau. You can do this for the most recent reporting cycle by running Tool #658 Print Loan Info Sent to Credit Bureau . If the member loan/additional signer information (defined by METRO 2 as the J1 segment or J2 Segment) is present in that file you need to look further into the following types More...

NSF fees a member has been charged. Is there a field that separates the number of NSFs from the number of Courtesy Pay (ANR) items? I do not want to include ANR.
The NSF Statistics Dashboard (Tool #557) will track this information for you automatically. It is separated into the NSF category and the Courtesy Pay Category. Credit unions are using this dashboard to help predict averages of NSF/Courtesy Pay fee income and also to track how many members may be using the service. You can click on any of the origins (listed in blue text) and you can drill further to members who had more than X transactions in a specific month. There are a lot of graphical oppor More...

How does CU*BASE handle Plastic reissues for my ATM/Debit/Credit card products?
CU*BASE does not perform any automated card reissues for any credit union or vendor. With the exception of two platforms*, all plastic card reissues are done for the credit union by their vendor. The normal process is the vendor sends the CU a couple of reports once monthly (usually 6 weeks out from expiration of card). One is a reissue report, the other a non-reissue report. The CU reviews and makes changes to the vendor system prior to their cutoff date for ordering the reissues. All cards More...

Can online banking passwords be set to expire?
Passwords do not expire according to a set period (such as every 30 days). However, you can activate a feature called non-use expiration for your online banking passwords. This is a feature that automatically locks a person from logging in to online banking if they have not logged in during the past 90 (or 60, or whatever) days. We recommend a setting of no more than 90 days, although 60 or even 30 days is even better. Remember that your most vulnerable accounts are those where members aren& More...
