Can the CU*BASE dormancy/escheat system automatically take care of pulling funds out of accounts eligible for escheating?
The dormancy tool does not do this, although it is possible to create automated transfer (AFT) records to move funds from member accounts according to whatever policies and procedures your credit union wants to use. Keep in mind that our dormany and escheat monitoring system works at the entire membership level, not individual accounts (in other words, it's about membership dormancy, not account inactivity). Likewise, when the system uses your escheat settings to flag an account as escheat More...

How do I charge off a base share (000) account so that I can take a loss on an overdrawn account? I understand that I cannot use Tool #201 (Charge Off Savings/Checking) to charge off the base share account.
In order to take a loss on an overdrawn base share (000) account (closing the entire membership), do the following: First, using Tool #492 Member Account Adjustment (Full) , make an adjustment to zero out the balance for the amount of the loss and assign it to the general ledger account associated with this type of loss, per your credit union policies and procedures. Then close the membership using Tool #22 Close Memberships/Accounts . Per your credit union policies and procedures, you may More...

I understand CU*Answers is in the process of updating its current SSL certificate to industry standards, and this requires each computer that is being used for CU*BASE printing to be have a file updated. What do I need to do?
These files should automatically be placed into the correct spots to ensure that Iaccess continues to work without any problems. If you want to verify that you have received this file you can follow these few steps: Open My computer Navigate to c:\users\public\documents\ibm\client access\ Verify the current file size of “cwbssldf.kdb” If this file size is 30kb then everything worked correctly and you don’t have to do anything else. If this file size is different follow steps More...

On some of my 1098 tax forms, members who just opened a loan this year are seeing an amount under “Box 2. Outstanding Mortgage Principal” that they don’t understand. Where does this figure come from?
The IRS, which makes changes to tax form layouts almost every year, recently added this new informational box to form 1098 to report the balance on a mortgage account as of January 1 of that same tax year. Each year on January 1 we capture the loan balance on all loan accounts in a special file, and then when tax forms are created at the end of the year we can use that figure. Therefore, for loans that were opened in a prior tax year, this balance is usually easy for members to understand. More...

What is the process for the check register when escheating corp drafts that are stale dated?
This can be accomplished either via Tool #324 and Tool #889 . Place a stop pay on the check(s) using Tool #324 CU Check/Bank Reconciliation . Then either create the check(s) for the various states unclaimed property offsetting the outstanding check G/L, or create a journal entry moving the stop pay funds from the outstanding check G/L to a suspense G/L and post the unclaimed property checks offsetting the suspense G/L. By doing this the outstanding check G/L stays in balance, and there is an au More...

My state has different rules for escheating IRA accounts compared to other accounts, based on the member's age. Is CU*BASE able to track that for me somehow?
At this time the dormancy/escheat monitoring system looks only at account activity when determining dormancy, not the member's age.

We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...

Why on an ATM or Debit card do I need to flag a member's card as "hot" and also close the same card in order to close the linked account or close the membership?
When a credit union statuses a member's card as 'HOT' or warm (Lost/Stolen/Fraud/Restricted), this information is transmitted immediately to your vendor to stop any further withdrawals/purchases being performed with that particular card. But at your vendor a 'Hot Card' is not considered to be a closed card. When your member's card remains at a HOT or Warm card status on CU*BASE, CU*BASE is still required to send any maintenance updates such as address change, phone numbe More...

I'm hearing from members that emails we send to them don't always reach them quickly, or are being marked as spam and blocked. Is there anything we can do to help make sure members receive emails from the credit union?
Remember that once the emails are sent by CU*BASE, it becomes a function of various email service providers to deliver the emails to members. Because of the way our system can send a batch of email messages to a large group of members at the same time, there may be some providers that interpret these email messages as “spam” (junk email) messages, especially if you have a large number of members who use the same provider (such as Gmail). If you hear from members that your emails ar More...

Where does CU*BASE get the account descriptions that members see in online banking and on their statement?
CU*BASE does have several different places where product descriptions can be configured, each used for different purposes. It's common for the descriptions to be entered the same into each configuration, but there are reasons why they are sometimes slightly different. For example, if you use the same range of account suffixes across several of your checking account products, your account suffix description might be something general like Checking whereas the description entered into the More...

Will we know if a bill is be paid by ACH or check in "It's Me 247" bill pay (Fiserv)? If so, how? How will stop payments be handled?
The most important thing to understand is when the bill will be received, not how it will be paid. Payment methods are determined by the relationship between Fiserv and the biller, and are subject to change. When scheduling a payment, the system automatically pre-fills the earliest payment date the biller can receive the payment. The date can be altered to a future date, but not an earlier date. Once a payment begins processing, you will be able to view the payment method in the history. If the More...

What data tables can I search to see information about where and when attempts are made to login to a member's online banking account?
There is a table called MBRAPPSTAT which holds records of various API calls done during the entire member authentication process, even before they have successfully logged in to online banking (even if through the mobile app). That is the first place TO look to see records of what's happening with this member's account as they step through that process. Second, create a journal entry, moving your funds from your check G/L to another suspense G/L configured for this purpose. My ATM/DEBIT switch is CO-OP. What does the "MSG TYPE" values mean on my LC01TXN report?
The MSG TYPE values describe types of 'authorizations' and 'transactions' processed through the CO-OP network. Authorizations: (100 110 120 130) For PIN Authorizations there is no hold on the member's funds. However, Signature Authorizations place a hold, CU*BASE shows this as a debit authorization comment in OTB processing. In either case this transaction is not posted to the members account. What precautions should I take when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming in from the same institution but for different household members, for example Social Security deposits?
Special care should be taken when adding distribution records for a member who has more than one deposit coming for the family from the same institution. Take the time to research the member ACH records using the ACH inquiry screen, and if there isn't enough information on this screen, go to CU*SPY and find the PACXTB report to review the ACH detail. For example, the Smith family receives three ACH payments for Social Security benefits: one for the husband, John, one for the wife, Mary, and More...
