How does CU*Answers handle controls regarding ransomware and backups?
CU*Answers is occasionally asked about controls regarding ransomware and backups. Some questions are related to our data processing software (CU*BASE) and others are related our Imaging System (CU*Spy). CU*Answers and our credit union clients are on entirely separate, segregated networks, and therefore it is highly unlikely if one business victimized by ransomware that both entities would be affected. The CU*Spy discussion does not apply to clients that have their own in-house imaging solutio More...

When underwriting an indirect/dealer loan application, does the Centralized Underwriting code “Refer to Manager” send a notification to the dealership via our CU*BASE Integration? If so, does the notification include the application notes from the loan application?
The credit union can pass any underwriting code that's configured as a Approval or Denial code type. So if your credit union has underwriting codes of AI for Approved Indirect and DI for Denied indirect, those will both pass a status of approved/denied as long as they are configured correctly. The only code we standardized is the CO for Counter Offer. This is the only memo type code that can be passed for indirect. Any other memo codes would not trigger a notification to the dealer. In the program where we update the rates for Audio Banking, what happens if I change a rate to 0.000% or erase an entire line from the configuration?
If the configuration has a rate of 0.000, Audio Banking will not read any message for that rate, even if one was originally recorded. For example, say you have requested a message to be recorded for item #9 on the configuration, but then you forget to go in and actually enter the rate into your configuration, or you accidentally delete the rate later. That recording will never be read to the member. Once you go in and enter a rate in position 9, then message #9 will be read along with that ra More...

Why does CU*Answers charge a monthly fee for running service charge programs we configure ourselves in CU*BASE?
There are two primary reasons we charge this fee: Our belief that we should do our best to keep our fees down when credit unions do not earn. This is why, for example, It's Me 247 mobile web is offered free to our credit unions. It's also behind our constant pressure to reduce fees where CUs have no basis or belief they can charge for a defensive, relationship service. Charging for these services in this manner fund other areas where the direct expenses cannot easily be identified wi More...

I changed my workstation configuration in CU*BASE to specify a certain "General Printer" ID, but my screen shots are still going to another printer. Why are they not going to the ID I defined?
The General Printer ID that is specified in Tool #326 CU Hardware Configuration does not control where screenshots are printed. The screen shot configuration needs to be changed on the virtual workstation device. Contact the network help desk for assistance. There should be 3 sessions per workstation (G0, G1, and G2). The screen shot printer can be modified here.

What are the differences between an online ASP and in-house e-document strategy?
The differences ultimately come down to control and cost. The online ASP system is the fastest, simplest, most inexpensive way to get started with an e-documents strategy for your credit union. With online ASP you offload the back-end service management headaches to CU*Answers. We manage, backup, secure, and patch/upgrade the eDOC servers and databases and these processes fall under our SAS 70 and third party security audits. The online ASP system consists of electronic storage of receipts, loan More...

Can CU*Answers prepare the necessary files for my CU to participate in the Wisconsin data matching program for unemployment insurance claims?
Yes. The data match file we already send to the State of Wisconsin each quarter will be used now by them for multiple purposes, including tax data, unemployment insurance, etc. Your credit union is still charged the same quarterly fee* for transmitting a single file to the state. (Note: This same technique may also be used by other states that are now requiring unemployment insurance claim data matches. CUs do not need to do anything; the file content is the same and the state is simply using More...

If a member Opts Out under the Reg. E rules, and they currently have a negative balance limit under my ANR program, will transactions still post to a negative balance without charging a fee? If so, do we need to go in and manually remove the negative balance limit for members until they Opt In?
Think of it this way: the member might have a negative balance limit, but Reg. E says you aren’t allowed to charge them a fee for dipping into it unless they specifically opt in for that level of service. But this rule of thumb ONLY applies to ATM and everyday debit card transactions, NOT to checks and ACH items, nor to recurring debit transactions. Since debit card transactions that have been authorized and come through to CU*BASE for posting cannot be returned like a check or ACH item, More...

How does a member's account get debited for bills they schedule through "It's Me 247" Bill Pay (Fiserv)?
In one of three ways: Note: The term 'subscriber' refers to your 'member'. Electronic Payments (ACH) - Fiserv's preference is to send all payments electronically. However in the Risk Model format it is not always feasible. Fiserv submits the merchant payment (via the fed) from a Fiserv settlement account the same day we submit the debit (via the fed) to the subscriber account. Fiserv is taking the risk on the payment. Electronic payments are typically sent when the subscr More...

Do I need to have an unsubscribe link in the communications I send to members? What is the benefit over having them call my credit union or reply to the email?
When sending emails to members from CU*BASE, or any emails to members for that matter, Google, Yahoo, and likely many other major tech companies that deal with email traffic require that the email include what they call a one-click unsubscribe link. Having the member reply to the email or call a number decreases the delivery rates of your message and makes it more readily marked as spam. Simply have the link say, Unsubscribe and link it to an external opt-out website (that you will need to More...
