What causes a member check to be returned as 'Refer to Maker'?
Previously, credit unions used Code 38 for “Return to Maker”, but this code is no longer available in the system. This change was initiated by a Reg CC change in 2018. Now, if you are presented with a situation where you need to return a check to another institution, it is recommended that you use one of these codes to clarify the reason for the check return. Some codes allow you to make the change in CU*BASE. Others require that you contact your Check Item Processor. Read below for More...

We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...

When I export a financial report into Excel the G/L account descriptions keep indenting further and further in as the report progresses. By the time the last page appears the descriptions are almost off the page! What's happening?
This is happening because your financial report configuration was set up with a line of asterisks (************) as visual separators. These characters actually having meaning to the programming and that causes it to mess up when exporting the data. Simply remove those and things should line up fine next time you export.

How can I find out where my members have loans, credit cards, or LOCs at other financial institutions?
If you pull credit reports using the CU*BASE online credit bureau access system, credit report data is stored online and can therefore be mined for opportunities. There are a couple of ways you can find this information: Use Tool #976 Where Your Members Borrow This tool pulls trade line data from stored credit report files, showing other financial institutions with whom your members do business. This tool lets you make a direct comparison between your credit union and a competitive FI. F More...

I print my financial reports using the "Print accounting format" feature so it removes the minus sign from credit-balance accounts. Sometimes the minus sign still appears on certain line items. Why?
In order to determine whether or not the minus sign should be removed from an item, the system looks at the G/L account itself to determine whether it is an asset, liability, income, or expense. However, for line items that represent totals of multiple accounts, the system does not have a single G/L account to look at to determine whether or not to hide the minus sign. This particularly affects items that were configured using total codes B (Bypass/Accumulate) and P (Print Bypassed Total) and More...

How do I prevent a journal entry from being posted to my General Ledger once I've finished my books and printed financials for that month?
Tool #360 End of Month Processing should be used by your credit union whenever you have finished posting entries to your books for a particular month and want to prevent additional entries from being posted accidentally. Refer to the Closing Your Books link below for details about what happens when you use this feature. NOTE: This is not to be confused with the month-end processing that is done by CU*Answers Operators every month for online CUs (or by self processors) on the last day and fi More...

Since the "See" feature is not going to be available anymore in the new look, will members who used that automatically be switched to allow "Jump" or will they just not have the feature at all?
We will not be converting any existing members who have only the See feature activated so that they automatically allow Jump for those relationships, but you can make those adjustments yourself as members request that access be reinstated. Use Tool #14 Member Personal Banker then choose See/Jump Relationships . Since we are still considering how to introduce a different type of See functionality in the future, at this point we will not be removing the existing settings from the configurat More...

Can members still jump to their other memberships from the new look for online banking?
Yes! Click the new Profile button in the upper-right corner and choose Switch accounts. Hint: Upload a unique profile picture to each of your memberships, so that once you have jumped to another account the image that shows for the Profile button gives you a clear view of where you are. Use the Personal Info Settings feature on the profile menu, then click the little camera button that appears next to the placeholder image at the top of the page.

When looking at the ATM/Debit or Credit Card Activity screen, what does the indicator in the Type and Transaction Description mean?
The fields are related to Process Codes, in that they are derived from the code attached to the message received from the plastics processor (vendor, or switch). The Type you see in the initial Type column of the Activity screen relates directly to the Transaction Description when you view additional transaction details. Transaction types may not apply to all vendors. Examples of these labels are as follows: DEP (Deposit Transactions) ATM/DEP A deposit made at an ATM. ATM/DEP - including a $ More...

We have a loan serviced by another financial institution that we are participating in. Our auditors have asked us to make sure that it is viewed as a loan, but we have it configured as an investment on CU*BASE. How should this be configured?
Within CU*BASE the Participation Lending software is for managing member loans and investor positions. With this the member record is serviced by your credit union and therefore recorded as an actual member loan. If your credit union is purchasing into a loan serviced by someone else and you would like to manage your investment in participation offerings by others, this can be done through the CU*BASE Investments subsidiary software. Credit unions can require that changes made by members in the Personal Information page in online banking be approved before they are updated in the system. How does that work?
Members can update personal information on the Personal Information page. As a security measure, credit unions can elect that these changes require their review before changes are accepted and changed in the system. This approval setup is activated on the Update Credit Union Online Banking Settings page accessed via Tool # 569: Online/Mobile Text Banking VMS Config and then Online/Mobile Web Online Banking. A member was blocked from making a P2P (person to person) transfer while using "It's Me 247" (Paymentus). What might cause this to occur?
Several reasons might cause this to occur. One example of the message that a member might receive would be: Your payment cannot be processed at this time. When any of our members updates their personal information through "It's Me 247" they get an email letting them know there was a change. Where does the signature line come from, and can I change it?
To update a signature line in CU*BASE, you’ll use the Tool #497 Member Connect Marketing Tools . (You will need a file name to move forward, so it can be helpful to have a test file created in your QUERYxx library for situations like this.) NOTE: For Member Reach clients, Xtend has previously created a file ‘MBRRTEST’ that will allow you to access the Message Maintenance screen. Can you "jump" from one account to another in "BizLink 247" without logging into the second account?
No, the jump feature is not available in BizLink 247 . This is because of the multi-employee structure for business online banking. There is currently no mechanism to link the employee under one business membership to an employee under another business membership, so that the system knows what permissions to grant the employee once they’ve jumped. It's Me 247 supports jump but in this environment, members can only jump to memberships on which they are primary or joint. NOTE: Dur More...

Simply put, it is a way for your members to continue using interactive services such as audio response and online banking, ATM/debit cards, and online credit cards for their financial needs, even while CU*BASE is off line for normal daily or monthly processing. I am familiar with the ability for members to "jump" from one account to another. Will the jumped-to account’s password expire due to non-use?
In a nutshell, once the Jump feature is activated and the appropriate permissions are given, the member can “jump” to another account. Jump allows a member to log into one of their memberships and then jump to another of their memberships (same SSN) without additional authentication. Your biggest user of Jump will probably be a member with multiple memberships at your credit union. If a member jumps to another membership, this counts against the password of the jumped-to membership More...

Throughout the virtual devices lifecycle, there are several different statuses that device can be in. Read below for some details! My ATM/DEBIT switch is CO-OP. What does the "MSG TYPE" values mean on my LC01TXN report?

Why does CU*BASE show delinquency in two different ways? In some places it is months/days and others it is actual number of days.
There are two methods used to track delinquent loans for reporting purposes in CU*BASE: Method One (for Collections tracking) We have always tracked delinquency in two separate fields for “Months” and ‘Days” in the member files. When a loan is 30 days delinquent, it shows as “0 Months, 30 Days” delinquent. When a loan is 31 days delinquent, it is “1 Month, 0 Days” delinquent.
