What should I do if an email comes back as undeliverable? Is there a way to flag the address as incorrect, like you can with a member's home address?
The one thing you do NOT want to do when you get a returned email is to change the email address to a fake one like bademail@xxx.com. Instead, check the Wrong email address flag on the member's account. You can access this flag anywhere an email address can be entered, such as through the Name/Address button (F14) in Inquiry and Phone Operator, or via Tool #14 Member Personal Banker (shortcut: pb), or via Tool #15 Update Membership Information (shortcut: umbr). When a member's ema More...

On the CU*BASE Home Page, why are some of the tools grayed out and I can't click on them?
That's because your employee ID (the one that was entered on the Welcome! window when you first logged in) does not have access to those tools. These will be most noticeable when viewing All Available Tools. (If you use All My Tools then any tools to which you do not have access will be hidden altogether.)

On the CU*BASE Home Page, can I have someone walk up to my workstation to log me into an option I can't normally access?
With the way the new home page works, remember that regardless of whether or not you have Auto-security activated, the visibility of the tools that display on your page will now be controlled by your employee ID. So if your employee ID doesn't have access to a tool, it will show as grayed-out in the tool list, so it cannot be accessed at all. Someone who does have access would need to log in with their ID first to set the tool list up with the proper permissions.

We have a link to Online Banking from our website. When a member logs out, can they be brought back to our home page automatically?
Members who use either this logout button or the Logout button at the top of the page will be directed to the Online Banking Community (OBC) page. Your credit union can select a different landing page, however. Contact the Internet Retailer Support Center to activate this feature at irsc@cuanswers.com.

How do I print a denial notice for non-lending (member service) related applications such as ATM/Debit card applications or Home Banking membership applications?
The Member Service Denials feature (to create/print denial notices) can be accessed via a Denied button located within Tool #3 Open/Maintain Memberships/Accounts. A credit union can configure miscellaneous member service denial notice types such as: ATM/Debit Card application denials, checking account denials, membership application denials, etc. These member service denials are commonly used for denied services that would not involve a loan application/request.

There are still screens and reports here and there that show labels such as “Home phone” and “Cell phone” but those don’t look like my CU-defined labels nor the ones entered when setting up the phone number for the member. What do these labels mean?
When the new database was created it was not feasible to adjust all of the hundreds of programs, custom forms, and reports where phone numbers happened to be used. So the original labels used prior to the 18.07 release may still appear here and there. That’s why the new database automatically copies contact numbers back to the original locations in MASTER and MASTRL, so these locations can still be used by those programs that were not adjusted to use the new MASTPH table directly. As a r More...

If I don't want my staff to use Auto-security, how do I control that?
There is a credit union-level on/off flag where you can disable auto-security as an option for ALL of your employees. To access this, launch Tool #327 Employee Security and use the CU Options button. If auto-security is enabled, anyone can choose to activate it if they wish, either manually by clicking the button at the bottom of the home page, or via their Preferences. As a compromise, if you have some employees who share workstations and therefore need to be able to enter an ID as they acc More...

If I want to give someone else access to my PC so they can take over my teller workstation for the rest of the day, can I just turn off auto-security and have them reactivate it themselves, or do I have to log off?
Deactivating auto-security then reactivating it does require you to enter a different employee ID. After a password is entered to reactivate auto-security under that ID, the screen will refresh the tools display to show which ones can be accessed and which cannot. However, it doesn't necessarily refresh all of that employee's other preferences such as color theme or tool set (Favorites vs. All My Tools). Therefore it's best to just log off and have the next user log in to complete More...

Can you explain how the system secures funds for debit card authorizations?
The process can vary a bit according to the vendor, but here's a discussion about how it works for credit unions on the CO-OP network, as an example. In most cases, debit card authorizations create a Misc. Secured Shares record on the member's account to hold the funds. When the actual transaction comes in, this record is automatically deleted. (There are exceptions to this rule, such as gas purchases.) A little history: In the past, debit card authorizations would add a hold to an ind More...

How can I find out where my members have loans, credit cards, or LOCs at other financial institutions?
If you pull credit reports using the CU*BASE online credit bureau access system, credit report data is stored online and can therefore be mined for opportunities. The FACT Act requires we notify members when a credit score was used to determine eligibility for a mortgage loan. How can I use CU*BASE tools to comply with this requirement?
Option 1: Create a Misc. Member Account Form with the appropriate text, and add a procedure for your loan processors to print this form whenever a loan like this is created. Since the CU*BASE online credit bureau system has no way to know if a credit score is used in the underwriting decision, nor whether the credit report was used for a mortgage or home equity loan, this will be manual process. I just got a new laptop and when I try to log in to CU*BASE GOLD it takes several minutes, and then I get an error message, "Cannot Connect() to server."
This can happen if you have the Launch ProDOC when logging in option turned on in your Preferences (click the Preferences button or use F5 while on the CU*BASE Home page), if the workstation you are using does not actually have ProDOC installed. ProDOC is installed locally, but your CU*BASE GOLD preferences are attached to your CU*BASE employee ID, which means they are used no matter which device you are using to log in. Usually that's a good thing, but if you happen to use a workstation More...

Is PIB the same as multi-factor authentication?
No. PIB is a layered security solution , which is one of the three methods recommended by the NCUA to comply with the “Guidance on Authentication in Internet Banking Environment” (letter 05-CU-18). Remember that you only need to select one of the three available methods. (The other two methods are multi-factor authentication, and “other controls,” the NCUA’s way of allowing for technology that doesn’t even exist yet.) Although the term “multi-factor More...

What is the strategy behind how online banking releases are scheduled?
One of the hardest things to do with a 7x24 product like o nline banking and PIB is to decide when to implement software changes. Unlike CU*BASE changes that easily can be coordinated with normal credit union operating hours, o nline b anking changes must work around member usage patterns and support concerns. If a member needs to check a balance or transfer money at 3:00 in the morning, he can’t just pick up the phone and ask a credit union MSR to handle the transaction for him. Because More...

Why does my credit union need Station Control for CBX?
As we transition from CU*BASE GOLD to CBX, we are shifting from an application that runs directly on a workstation to a more modern, browser-based solution. Previously, CU*BASE GOLD relied on command-line arguments and local temporary files to interact with multiple applications. This approach is not sustainable for the future, as web browsers lack the capability to execute command-line requests and require called applications to be installed and registered on the system. Several members have called asking us to reset their password for online banking. Are there questions I can ask the member that would help in determining what could be happening?
Many factors can play a part in why members are experiencing problems during login to online banking. Below are some questions to ask along with some common resolutions. How are you entering online banking? Is the member using direct login from the credit union's website? Or are they entering using www.itsme247.com ?
