How do I use CU*BASE tools to keep track of the beneficial owners on my business accounts and other memberships?
Using CU*BASE to Comply with New Rules for Tracking Beneficial Ownership FinCEN has issued new rules under the Bank Secrecy Act that require financial institutions to identify and verify the identity of the beneficial owners of all legal entity members (corporations, etc.). Under the final rule, credit unions are required to have written procedures to identify and verify beneficial owners of legal entity members who open new accounts on or after May 11, 2018. In addition to identifying and coll More...

Explain how the Secondary Names (SECNAMES) file works to store joint owner names, especially in cases where a membership doesn't really have "joint owners" per se (like a Representative Payee).
The Secondary Names (SECNAMES) file stores instructions that link a membership account to another member or non-member record. The file stores links to joint owner names and beneficiary names for all non-IRA account types. (IRA beneficiaries are stored in a completely different file because they are linked to an IRA Plan Type, not specific individual sub-accounts.) The file also stores a third type referred to as miscellaneous owner which can be used for any purpose you wish. The most co More...

What if I want to add a new primary (sequence 1) phone # for a member while still keeping the existing numbers? I’m getting an error that I cannot use an existing sequence number.
That’s true when adding a brand-new record, but it is possible to re-sequence numbers later once the records already exist, so try this: Use Add and add the new contact number, leaving the sequence # as is After saving, select the new number in the list and use Edit Change the sequence # to 1 and press Enter A warning message will appear; use Add/Update to confirm All remaining phone numbers will be re-sequenced to fit the new one in. TIP: When changing the sequence number for an existin More...

With the CU*BASE budgeting tools, can I project changes to my branches for the coming year, such as if I’m adding a branch or plan to reallocate member branch assignments at some point?
Yes. There is a technique for reviewing and manually adjusting branch allocation calculations for projected asset and liability balances. See the Budgeting with CU*BASE booklet for instructions. NOTE: The classical budgeting tools also contain a “Close a branch” function which zeros out monthly figures from your budget starting with a month you specify. But this does not affect projections for asset and liability balances used in the modeling tools.

Explain the differences between a joint owner and a miscellaneous owner.
Both of these terms refer to types of Secondary Names records that can be linked to individual savings, checking, certificate and IRA accounts. There are actually three types of links, tracked via records in the SECNAMES (Secondary Names) database table: Joint owners (type J ) Beneficiaries (type B ) Miscellaneous owners (type M - added with the 18.10 release) All are simply links from an account to another membership (MASTER) or non-member (MSNONMBR) record. What is the timeline for performing A2A transfers and when the actual posting occurs?
It generally takes about two business days for the item to post, depending on the cut-off time you have set up with Magic-Wrighter. For example, say you have a cut-off time of 12:00 noon ET. If you performed the transfer to pull funds from another institution before 11:45 a.m. ET* on a Monday, the funds would be pulled from the other institution and deposited to the member's credit union account no later than Wednesday. If posted after the cut-off time on Monday, the transactions would be More...

I created a loan with an incorrect loan category. Can I maintain the loan category on the member's loan? Will the principal and interest balance update the general ledger?
Yes. It is possible to maintain the loan category as long as both loan categories have the same Process Type (E=Closed End, L= LOC, M=Mortgage etc). The maintenance screen also allows for the new category principal G/L which should be used to insure the loan category value is using the correct general ledger number for principal. The member's principal and accrued interest balances will be updated in the general ledger during end-of-day. Therefore, no manual journal entry is necessary.

I’m new to CU*BASE. Can I manually enter my G/L history so that I can use the trending tools when working my budget?
Yes, this is possible in most cases, at least for the monthly balances that are used by most budgeting tools and trending dashboards. Since importing detailed history of debits and credits to G/L accounts might not be possible, keep in mind that functionality may still be limited for some tools. Contact Keegan Daniel, VP Professional Services, at kdaniel@cuanswers.com to discuss your options for either flooding data into your database or manually entering data that could be used by the budget to More...

Documents from GOLD are printing to the wrong tray.
Tray assignments are controlled by a combination of the model in the CU*BASE library, the print session configuration, the Windows driver, and the settings on the printer itself. Let's break down how each affects it first: Model in library - each model defines the PCL code that CU*BASE appends to the print job for duplex and trays. If the wrong model is selected, the wrong PCL may be pushed with the print job. It is also important to have a supported printer , otherwise CU*Answers cannot More...

Is CU*BASE GOLD vulnerable to the SSLv2 DROWN attack?
SSLv2 (SSL version 2) is a data encryption protocol that encrypts data before transmitting it over a network. On March 1, 2016, the US-CERT organization released an alert about a vulnerability in version 2 of the SSL encryption protocol. This vulnerability could allow an attacker to decrypt data if enough SSLv2 information was intercepted. SSLv2 is now considered obsolete. I’m trying to view check images in CU*BASE and either getting an error or the viewer is timing out. What should I do?
First check to see if you can view images via online banking. If you can view them in online banking but not CU*BASE (or vice versa), contact a Client Service Representative. If you cannot view them in either place, or if they take a really long time to load, you may wish to contact your check processor to see if they are experiencing any difficulties. What criteria does the system use to determine which loans appear on the special mortgage statements?

There is an activation flag in statement configuration that lets you choose whether to generate mortgage statements for ALL Process Type M mortgages, or only for certain loan categories. Is there a specific timeframe during which GOLD updates and major releases are applied on Sundays?
The software updates to the iSeries are typically applied between 8a.m. and 1p.m. ET on Sunday mornings, although that can vary widely depending on the size of the release and other things that are happening at that same time (such as HA rollovers). GOLD updates are deployed the business day prior to the iSeries host being updated. For instance, if the host is being updated on Sunday morning, the GOLD update would be deployed on Friday. In online banking, why is my member restricted from adding a beneficiary to a new CD even though the person is already a beneficiary on a different CD on the same membership?
Currently in online banking when setting up new savings/checking/CD accounts we only display names of existing joint owner relationships, not relationships that are only co-borrowers or beneficiaries. To be more specific, this person needs configured as “J” in the SECNAMES table (file), not a “B” (beneficiary) or “M” (miscellaneous owner). The member can call the credit union, however, and a member of your staff can use CU*BASE to add this person as a benefic More...

When I look at the “last 10 accounts” lookup showing the most recent account numbers I accessed, I’m not seeing an account number I know I just accessed. Why would that be?
Many programs wait to log an account number for that list until you actually take an action on that account. Since the purpose of that feature is to allow you to work with the same account again, the idea is not to clutter it up with numbers that were entered by mistake, fat-finger errors, etc. This feature is a very handy tool but it’s not intended to be a reliable audit log of every account number you ever accessed for any reason. Looking at the totals in my annual member tax file (TAX), the totals do not match the 1098 Summary Totals on report P1098. What is the calculation for the 1098 Summary Total for 'Mortgage Interest Paid"?
The 1098 Summary Total for Mortgage Interest Paid assumes you are sending 1098 forms with the loan interest paid greater than $600.00 turned on. This is a configurable flag. Depending on the credit union election to add Loan Fines to the Interest Paid totals, you would add the Loan Interest Paid to the Loan Fines. Then include only loans with 'M' in the Reportable Loan field and select the total interest + fines greater than $600.00. The last selection is to review the member's for More...

I’m looking at the IDCODE field in the MASTER table and I’m not sure what it’s used for. I see that ‘SS’ or ‘TI’ are the only values in it, but when I look at the accounts that have it, I can’t find where the value is entered. Can you tell me what this field is used for?
This field was intended for a project to introduce foreign ID functionality into our database. The project was cancelled and we do not have any current plans to resurrect it in the near future. When a membership is created, this field is automatically populated with 'SS' for individual memberships and 'TI' for organizational memberships. This mirrors the MASTYP field, which stores 'MI' for individuals and 'MO' for organizations and is used throughout the system. More...
