What are the self-processor network requirements for CBX?
Before you begin: CU*Answers requires any CBX environment to be in an isolated sole-purposed DMZ to protect you from our network and to protect us from your network. Any distributed environment requires a load balancer with sticky sessions to function properly. CU*Answers only supports F5 load balancers. Our current recommended server sizing for self processors (not partners) is 4 cores, 16GB RAM, but may need to be adjusted based on actual usage patterns. Windows Server 2019 and associated lic More...

What causes a member check to be returned as 'Refer to Maker'?
Previously, credit unions used Code 38 for “Return to Maker”, but this code is no longer available in the system. This change was initiated by a Reg CC change in 2018. Now, if you are presented with a situation where you need to return a check to another institution, it is recommended that you use one of these codes to clarify the reason for the check return. Some codes allow you to make the change in CU*BASE. Others require that you contact your Check Item Processor. Read below for More...

When looking at the ATM/Debit or Credit Card Activity screen, what does the indicator in the Type and Transaction Description mean?
The fields are related to Process Codes, in that they are derived from the code attached to the message received from the plastics processor (vendor, or switch). The Type you see in the initial Type column of the Activity screen relates directly to the Transaction Description when you view additional transaction details. Transaction types may not apply to all vendors. Examples of these labels are as follows: DEP (Deposit Transactions) ATM/DEP A deposit made at an ATM. ATM/DEP - including a $ More...

Since we are a self processor, how will Magic-Wrighter get the files for A2A?
When a member requests an A2A transfer the request is stored in the A2ATRANS file in FILExx (where xx is your credit union ID). CU*BASE has a program which checks that file periodically through out the day. If there is a new item in the file, CU*BASE sends that information to Magic-Wrighter. You will need to take into consideration that there is a daily cut-off time (arranged by you with Magic-Wrighter) and these transactions can take up to 2 business days. So for example, if a request is ent More...

What is a Source of Receipt and how do I get a copy of one?
Source of Receipt (SOR) is the paperwork that accompanies the checks to the Check Processor. It is the documented proof of when and from whom the checks were received. SOR provides the ABA# of the bank the checks are received from, the date of the cashletter, the amount of the bundle the check was in, the position of the check in the bundle (checks before after), and the tracer number assigned to the check. On the form you'll see a couple of abbreviations: IB stands for Item Before that More...

We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...

What are the differences between an online ASP and in-house e-document strategy?
The differences ultimately come down to control and cost. The online ASP system is the fastest, simplest, most inexpensive way to get started with an e-documents strategy for your credit union. With online ASP you offload the back-end service management headaches to CU*Answers. We manage, backup, secure, and patch/upgrade the eDOC servers and databases and these processes fall under our SAS 70 and third party security audits. The online ASP system consists of electronic storage of receipts, loan More...

How does a member's account get debited for bills they schedule through "It's Me 247" Bill Pay (Fiserv)?
In one of three ways: Note: The term 'subscriber' refers to your 'member'. Electronic Payments (ACH) - Fiserv's preference is to send all payments electronically. However in the Risk Model format it is not always feasible. Fiserv submits the merchant payment (via the fed) from a Fiserv settlement account the same day we submit the debit (via the fed) to the subscriber account. Fiserv is taking the risk on the payment.
