What causes a member check to be returned as 'Refer to Maker'?
Previously, credit unions used Code 38 for “Return to Maker”, but this code is no longer available in the system. This change was initiated by a Reg CC change in 2018. Now, if you are presented with a situation where you need to return a check to another institution, it is recommended that you use one of these codes to clarify the reason for the check return. Some codes allow you to make the change in CU*BASE. Others require that you contact your Check Item Processor. Read below for More...

Sometimes when I export CU*BASE data, my date fields are not able to be formatted as dates in Excel. What can I do in Report Builder so that my date columns are able to be formatted?
After accessing your query in Report Builder (Tool #100), select the option to Choose Files and select to add the DATELOOKUP table. To join this file, select 1 or 2 (matched records or matched with primary) and join by the compatible date fields. As an example, if your original file's date field is OPENDT and the format is MMDDYY layout, you would then match the OPENDT field with the matching field format in the DATELOOKUP table, DTMMDDYY. Once the DATELOOKUP table is linked in, you need More...

Can I export a canned Query to Excel?
There is not currently a way to export a canned Query directly into an Excel file. If you want to export data from a canned Query, you'll need to create a similar custom Query via Tool #100 CU*BASE Report Builder (Query) . Once you have the Query built, then you can export the resulting database file. (See the related link below for instructions on downloading files.) Keep in mind that download authority is still required in order to export any data from the QUERYxx library.

When I export a financial report into Excel the G/L account descriptions keep indenting further and further in as the report progresses. By the time the last page appears the descriptions are almost off the page! What's happening?
This is happening because your financial report configuration was set up with a line of asterisks (************) as visual separators. These characters actually having meaning to the programming and that causes it to mess up when exporting the data. Simply remove those and things should line up fine next time you export.

I am using Tool #1375 Data Transfers (Upload or Download) to download a file to my PC. I am getting a "Server returned SQL error" message when I use the "browse" button to find my file name on the iSeries.
This can happen when using the Browse button if the File name field is blank, like this: This error message appears: To prevent this error, before clicking the Browse button, enter QUERYxx/ (where xx is your CUID) into the File name field. This tells the system where to look for your files (and more importantly, gives it a location from which you are authorized to download):

If there a list that I can download into Excel of all of the tools in CU*BASE (with tool # and description), regardless of who is assigned?
There isn't a tool for this, but what you can do to generate a list of all tools available for your credit union is create a template or temporary employee ID in T ool #327 CU*BASE Employee Security and assign it every tool. Then you can use Tool #357 Employee Security Audit Report to un the Employee Security Audit Report. Why does CU*BASE show delinquency in two different ways? In some places it is months/days and others it is actual number of days.
There are two methods used to track delinquent loans for reporting purposes in CU*BASE: Method One (for Collections tracking) We have always tracked delinquency in two separate fields for “Months” and ‘Days” in the member files. When a loan is 30 days delinquent, it shows as “0 Months, 30 Days” delinquent. When a loan is 31 days delinquent, it is “1 Month, 0 Days” delinquent. I need to do some maintenance on my member records to clean up some addresses and other contact info. I understand that normally, changes like this will trigger a "Red Flag" alert notifying the member that changes were made. But if all I'm doing is fixing a misspelled street name or adding "AVE" at the end of a street address, it will only confuse the member to receive that alert. Is there a tool that does not prompt the Red Flag warnings to be sent?
This tool is a custom tool that would need to be requested by the Client Services and Education Team. Yes, although for obvious reasons it is a special tool that should be carefully controlled and used only by authorized users in special situations. The most common use is immediately after a data conversion, where new clients just moving to the CU*BASE platform need to perform some routine cleanup of truncated names or stray special characters on street addresses on the data that was converted More...

When downloading a file in Tool #1375 File Transfers (Upload or Download), I am experiencing very slow transfer times. What could be a reason for this?
If you observe drastically reduced download speeds (such as anything over 5 minutes), it is most commonly due to issues translating the date fields between the CU*BASE file and the PC file. The Data Transfer tool will still complete the download, however, there are steps you can take to speed things along. To troubleshoot this issue, access Tool #1375 File Transfers (Upload or Download) , navigate to the From IBM i -2 tab and select the Format Options button in the File section. On the pop-u More...

Why on an ATM or Debit card do I need to flag a member's card as "hot" and also close the same card in order to close the linked account or close the membership?
When a credit union statuses a member's card as 'HOT' or warm (Lost/Stolen/Fraud/Restricted), this information is transmitted immediately to your vendor to stop any further withdrawals/purchases being performed with that particular card. But at your vendor a 'Hot Card' is not considered to be a closed card. When your member's card remains at a HOT or Warm card status on CU*BASE, CU*BASE is still required to send any maintenance updates such as address change, phone numbe More...

We are thinking of activating the new See and Jump features for online banking. Can you explain the thinking behind the security, and why only an account owner can have this access?
IMPORTANT NOTE: When It’s Me 247 was updated in 2021, the “See” option shown on here was made unavailable. There are two major points to consider when thinking about allowing members to see information beyond the account to which they are actually logged in. Both extend beyond online banking to consider a financial institution’s role and responsibility in protecting member private data via all access channels, from the teller line to a back office employee answering More...
